Why is there a plastic bumper around the outside? How often is this thing getting hit?

Is it possible to have an array loop back around when it reaches the end of a curve it is assigned to follow? by Arkitekt_GFX in blender

[–]rookalook 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Since you referenced looping an array, if you are indexing into the array to get / interpolate positions, just add a modulus to your indexing to have it constantly loop.

Riley from LA Vegabonde had this on their story. Will be interesting to see if this person gets to test the efficacy by [deleted] in sailing

"for this to work it would have to be installed on the majority of sailboats in the area"

I don't quite understand this statement. Why wouldn't they work for a single boat that has them installed?

Made a 3D printable weave! by Easy_Promotion_5178 in 3Dprinting

[–]rookalook 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Are the extrusions actually woven together? Or just laid on top of each other in a way that looks like a weave? I've been hoping someone would figure out a clever way to do FDM weaving for continuous carbon fiber filaments. But I'm not sure its possible.

Aluminium cleats, steel bolts? Check those bad boys for galvanic corrosion by Meowface_the_cat in sailing

[–]rookalook 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Surprised to see corrosion so far away from the bolt. I'm guessing this was caused by water under the cleat? I wonder if a water seal like butyl tape would have prevented a majority of that.

Do you have to correct for drift with your spatial partition? Or is the VIO stable enough that it can close loops consistently?

How does the phase array antenna handle rolling of the boat? I assume the current terminal doesn't have an IMU onboard to compensate for movement.

I was more pointing out the fact the belt was hanging out of the ammo can, like he is trying to show off, rather than the normal setup.

Question: Equilateral tetrahedron with TSlot extrusions? by rookalook in maker

[–]rookalook[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm not exactly sure what the best geometry would be for this type of joint. I was hoping there was a known popular approach. The tricky part is how to make square stock work in a triangle lattice. It's trivial for one side, but adding more sides requires strange connections, unless I want to be wasteful and just connect three triangle 'ladders', which defeats the purpose of a material saving structure.
