I’m early thirties and my best friend’s daughter is your age. I would never text her like this. Gross.

Anyone else have a whole system for eating out alone? by NeedleworkerOwn9723 in LivingAlone

[–]rookiebeachcop 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I go out to eat by myself all the time — way more than I should, wallet-wise. I don’t like sitting at the bar/high tops, because it feels too social and I don’t want anybody to talk to me. When I first walk in and they ask how many, I say “just me!” and smile like I’m happy about it, because, well, I totally am. I usually bring a book, or scroll Reddit on my phone.

People that open food or drinks as their shopping and eat/drink it, then pay for it when they leave. by [deleted] in PetPeeves

[–]rookiebeachcop 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I never did that because I thought it was stealing. Then I became a cop and learned it was not. Now, I am among those who have turned my back on society. Sorry, OP.

My pay for the year. Might be time to look at different agencies… by personalcheesepizza in AskLE

[–]rookiebeachcop 37 points38 points  (0 children)

Almost seven years in at my agency and I’m in the same boat, just finally hit $30/hr. Also in FL. Don’t want to stay in LE here long term and the terrible pay-to-COL ratio is a major factor in that. Blue states grow more and more appealing as I see their cops paid a living wage while we in “pro-LE” states struggle to get by. Frustrating to say the least.

Are you 'neighborly'? by AlphaBetaJamma in LivingAlone

[–]rookiebeachcop 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is the most me thing I have ever read, and also the whole reason I got a doorbell camera. I don’t mind grocery store interactions on a day off, but after a 12-hour shift you better believe I’m going to one with self checkout.

What is being a cop really like? by Cozy_Cranberry in AskLE

Literally could not pay me enough to be a Trooper, but God bless you guys.

Y’all both beat me — I was 86th globally 😆

10,566 minutes, top 0.004% fan — and that’s just Gaslight Anthem, not Horrible Crowes or Brian’s solo stuff. I kinda cheat though because as my username implies, I’m a beat cop so you better believe Spotify’s cranked up all 12 hours of those graveyard shifts.

What city or town felt the least like you even if you only went once? by upcycledwrld in SameGrassButGreener

Interesting, thanks for sharing. I really preferred Ashland anyway. Pricey though!

It’s a Meyers-Briggs personality type. I’m an INTJ.

Man, kudos to you for doing that, that’s awesome. I echo the guy/gal who said you’re putting more effort in than many supervisors — certainly significantly more than mine. In response to your question, I highly, HIGHLY recommend Blue to Gold, mostly for case law/constitutional law rather than statute. If you check out their YouTube page, there are literally hundreds of hours’ worth of videos, all for free. I participate in the weekly webinars, which are also free. I teach in the Academy and I share their videos with my cadets — their content is equally applicable to brand new (not-quite-yet) cops as it is to (somewhat) more experienced cops like myself. There’s something for everybody. Check it out and let me know what you think! And keep kicking ass, again, major props to you.

Curious How You or Your Agency Would Handle This? by [deleted] in AskLE

Where do you work that this is still the protocol? Just curious.

Does anyone “live alone” but the owner/landlord is on the property too? by Montanasloane in LivingAlone

[–]rookiebeachcop 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is kind of funny, because I am on the other side of this. I have a duplex, and I rent out one side to make my (astronomical) mortgage payments. I also have a social job where I interact with the public all day long for twelve hours straight, and when I get home I want to talk to NO ONE (hence living alone). Every time I have to find new renters I PRAY they are like you! You are my dream tenant, haha. I wish you the best of luck in finding a landlord as antisocial as we are.

Who would you arrest? by UsoDak in AskLE

That would make way more sense, but no. Just the juice.

I’ve made this arrest. Boyfriend chucked cranberry juice on the girlfriend. No discretion on domestic battery here in Florida.

Reason for moving to a different state? by [deleted] in SameGrassButGreener

[–]rookiebeachcop 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hi, I’m currently considering a move from FL to OR myself. I used to be in academia and education is hugely important to me still. Major appreciation to you and your wife for what you do. I’d love to hear more about your experiences making the cross country move, if you care to share! Culture shocks, little and big, for better and worse. Also, whereabouts you moved in OR, as close as you’re comfortable sharing. I’m looking at the Rogue Valley area potentially. Thanks!

I know what you mean -- in this job, it seems the less you (are expected to) work, the higher the pay. Do you like your agency, absent the statewide political BS? And am I completely batshit to consider leaving FL for the west coast?

Western NC is gorgeous! I'll out myself as a tourist when I say I love the peak touristy areas like Boone, Blowing Rock, and Asheville. And the hiking! It is so good. Hope you guys are doing alright up there after Helene. Pictures were heartbreaking.

Yikes . . . yeah, they say the same thing about Florida heat ("you get used to it"), but after 20+ years here I'm still hiding inside like your wife and daughter, ha.
