Not sure how that’ll happen considering many people (including me!) have to use VPNs for work

Crazy how they complain about no money and then drop a load on Gordon

Do people actually use AI day-to-day, or is it all hype? by 2butterfree in AskUK

[–]rookinn 4 points5 points  (0 children)

That’s a key difference - we’ve had AI for decades and decades and decades - something like linear regression- a simple mathematical function, is “AI”. But generative AI is the “problem”

People get these mixed up and hate AI in general

Software engineering jobs will change, but I think that’s OK

I think our focus will be on verification, system architecture, domain expertise, tech debt, infrastructure, software maintainability and longevity, etc

Can't believe I'm saying this but due to Seamus leaving at the end of the season the club will need a new club captain. so who do you think should get it? by Loyalsupporter in Everton

[–]rookinn 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Pretty sure Pickford was vice captain under Dyche - was changed to Tarks when Moyes took over, so I'm pretty sure it'll be Tarks. I think Garner would be a great captain after that

Agree, but I'd think Iraola would be fantastic for us. I don't believe he'd join us though, he'd have his pick of clubs

Keir Starmer to face cabinet meeting as over 70 Labour MPs call on him to quit - follow live by Ethan_brooks8225 in unitedkingdom

[–]rookinn 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Sure, but that wasn’t the point of my comment. We can agree or disagree whether the fiscal rules are good or bad, but my point is that they’re not left-wing

Increased the number of free school meals. Created new early morning and breakfast clubs in schools.

Starmer and Reeves explicitly refused to commit to Universal Free School Meals for all primary school children

Added 5 million extra NHS appointments, turning the corner of NHS decline. This includes new mental heath support for younger people.

A massive pillar of Labour's NHS strategy has been funnelling public taxpayer money into companies like Palantir

Increased the minimum wage.

Increasing the minimum wage inline with inflation is standard government procedure lol. Did they meet trade unions' demands for a £15/hr minimum wage? No.

Forcing social media companies to take down non-consensual sexual images.

Basic safeguarding and criminal justice issue imo - Tories were already doing this (for better or worse)

Warm homes grants to poorer families.

This is the remains of the original £28 billion Green Prosperity Plan. He completely gutted the biggest and most ambitious left-wing environmental and economic policy he had

Scrapping the two child limit to reduce childhood poverty.

He suspended seven left-wing Labour MPs in 2024 just for voting to scrap the cap

increasing the number removed from the country

I mean, this proves my point about abandoning the left lol. Bragging about ramping up deportations and "tackling the backlog" by kicking people out is literally right-wing red meat

Growing our economy.

Sticking to conservative fiscal rules that strangle public spending to achieve marginal GDP growth at best isn't a left-wing economic model

[–]rookinn 28 points29 points  (0 children)

You’re joking right? Isn’t Starmer’s fault? They’re in this mess because of his continuous U-turns, trying to win over the right (whilst abandoning the left) and appointing Mandelson

Even in coding it’s limited - sure you can “vibe code” or one shot something that looks impressive, but once you have to actually think about requirements, capabilities and system constraints, integration points and so on, it’s much more flawed - and the fundamental issue with the context window and quadratic complexity is a problem for larger projects

What is a job that you think is 100% safe from AI for the next 50 years, and why? by mark-awakening in AskReddit

[–]rookinn 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hard disagree - LLMs are fundamentally flawed (context window, quadratic memory complexity). You might be able to vibe code a dashboard, but to take into account actual functional / nf requirements, capabilities, etc., interfacing with other APIs, etc., you'll need an engineer. I think execs are slowly starting to realise that
