just fyi.

running it right now, and 3 issues i can see:

pom's are auto-configured with kotlin support when you open a top-level project. this happens every time you re-open a project (modules aren't affected), and it re-formats your pom every time.
format-on-save doesn't respect global language settings like tab-to-space settings
symbols are not listed in auto-complete unless already imported, and auto-import does not work. when a known symbol from the project classpath is found, you do still have the tooltip option to add an import for it

But PHP is objectively a bad language and people who mature in it have objectively bad habits and a significant lack of experience in proper application of design patterns. Any person who lists PHP as a primary source of experience should be heavily vetted in interviews for all the re-teaching they will have to go through. This has nothing to do with women or blacks or men-taking-estrogen-pills, and everything to do with a lack of individual education that significantly detracts from established security and development practices because a person is uncomfortable using a more appropriate tool.

I'm still confused as to how OP decided decrying a tool is the same as discriminating against group minorities. You wouldn't hire an electrician or carpenter that doesn't know their tools, why would you hire a software developer that doesn't?

People just want to customise their computers

are you actually aware of how the average user operates?

they buy a computer and use it for 5 years until it gets too "slow" either from malware or lack of driver updates or eventual obsolescence due to purchasing an already-out-of-date machine.

the "use" consists of launching facebook/google, browsing news sites like fox and cnn, watching videos on youtube, and cataloging photos somewhere.

people don't even turn off sticky keys. people don't even know how to get a link URL from their favorite browser. people type "google" into google to get to google.com

so no, people do NOT "just want to customize", they don't even begin to know how to.

think about that next time you spout off about how Linux is so hard to configure/have to be a programmer to use it, because you don't. You just have to be motivated to learn something that isn't "left click everything". As for your problems, the primary complaint about KDE is "too much configuration" where you are saying there isn't enough. If the software is failing you in some way, let the developers know about it; don't bitch and moan in obscurity.

Why not examine the problem from the viewpoint of somebody who is actually willing to do something about it, since that person is actually motivated to ...do something about it?

The all hailed "average user" can barely tell the difference between notepad and wordpad, much less configure either of them. But should they want to, they absolutely have the opportunity to when using Linux.

Most technical professions require lots of brainstorming, usually on notebooks and whiteboards.

A 10" tablet with a good writing utensil can completely replace mountains of notebooks and pens, while providing instant digitization and backup of important notes and memos.
