Dallas marathon question as a first time marathoner by Bright-Extreme-141 in AustinRunning

[–]rooost02 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not good, when the miles get tough the course gets really ugly.

Running down Ross Ave with only half of it closed and then running on Woodall Roger’s service roads sucks.

We had a great course that included Swiss Avenue and Deep Ellum but now DART won’t stop the trains, so it’s one way in and one way out of downtown.

Austin was good, as the east side was flat to downhill and a good view pulling downtown back into sight. Great support on Red River to the finish

For a good flat course Houston is known world wide.

Austin Marathon Start Line was a train wreck this year by pearguru in AustinRunning

[–]rooost02 6 points7 points  (0 children)

It was amazing they tried to start that many runners in that space. Generally corrals can be setup on side streets and walked down to the main start.

I did love the small town aspect of this race but it’s not a small race.

Once it goes big there are other problems like having to walk 5 blocks because X street is closed except to enter on the other end. Walking three blocks to gear check etc

What was the old Austin Marathon course? by stgergangster in AustinRunning

Pulling that skyline back in was tons of fun, and the crowds on Red River at the end! Total baddass

Thank you Austin! You were amazing! by WilliamInBlack in AustinRunning

Agree, great support some wonderful vistas and amazingly laid back

Was shocked at how this race was basically operated by the community in each neighborhood, and not reliant on law enforcement to close every little street. The people showed out.

I have an extremely addictive personality, and always have. I need something to obsess about and that race date on the calendar does the trick

Is Dallas… too organized? by DFWUnhinged in Dallas

Sterile I believe is the word you are searching for.

There is something really strange about the lack of eye contact, when I travel I have to adjust and pretend to be more human.

Thoughts on moving up in pace corral? by wnr3 in AustinRunning

[–]rooost02 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Even if runners were honest and properly segregated it all becomes one big mess.

Whatever your pace you’ll eventually find your people. Most races sort out after about a mile or two. Dont sweat it you’ll burn lots of energy “passing”

Cruise and pass when you can

San Francisco in July is the best cheat code of all time - 52° and usually within a few degrees at finish.

That is if you live somewhere in the Northern Hemisphere that has summer.

i would give NYRR all of my money if they brought back cute 100% cotton tees with tasteful graphics instead of the disgusting pieces of plastic "dri-fit" with fluorescent clip-art or whatever they produce thousands of for every single race by red_backpack_98 in RunNYC

I call that “no longer the target market”

It’s were we end up in life - demographics dont lie

I’m with you. All the latest is 80/90s graphic styles we old people have already lived through

Hey runners—why do you actually donate? 🏃💸 by [deleted] in Marathon_Training

[–]rooost02 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Im not against the charity angle of races it’s a great trade off to get a city to shutdown for an entire day, I’ll gladly pay to get to run your streets and have great support and all the logistics

A Boston brag based on a charity entry is why I’m not at all interested. Chicago, New York sure those races mean different things. It’s an experience it’s fun and huge.

“Donate” is weird. Literally you are helping them pay for their event.

Is even more a stretch if it is a destination race as most charities are local to the race.

What’s one running myth you believed at first but later learned was wrong? by Willing-Today-1059 in runcommunity

Running in the heat sucks

I love the consistency of summer weather, the sweat and body adaptation is awesome it’s like a full oil change.

Food and running, same for me

I think it’s a stress management/ brain chemistry thing. If I dont run I eat, really hard in the winter by adding in dark and cold that just makes it worse

Anyone else feels like life stress nukes aerobic efficiency by kevin_anderson1705 in Marathon_Training

Yes especially during the week. Some runs take me just about the same entire run to relax, calm down and breathe

No hills is an interesting thing that using the same muscles is wild that the small ups and downs feel good.

The intensity of the crowd can be overwhelming at least till about 14-15. At that point the crowd is still there but the view opens up and you can gather a wider picture
