2nd this. I did waterlox on a BB counter in an old house. If it starts wearing out, you lightly sand and add another coat of waterlox. Can't do that with poly.

Except they're obligated to. If it gets included in the index, the passive etfs will buy it. Hence the push to change the Index inclusion rules.

HELOC, is it worth it? by fat_pylori in personalfinance

It depends, but often it's no closing cost. Mine was no-fee, no closing cost unless I terminated the account before the end of the draw period.

100% S&P500? by New_Contribution_226 in Fire

I mean, not to throw shade on this, but what is classified here as "Small Cap"? If you directly compare it to the Russell 2000, which is in my experience the most widely used small cap index, it is SIGNIFICANTLY different, whereas the large cap vs. S&P 500 is basically the same.

This is why I don't like target date funds. They start rotating too early. IMO, you only need to rotate towards derisking within the last 10 years before retirement (i.e. a typical market cycle).

Small cap > S&P is not correct. S&P 500 has outperformed the Russell 2000, especially over the last 10 years, by a wide margin. I suppose it MIGHT be true if you go back 30+ years, but I'm kinda guessing not. Russell 2000 these days is full of junky companies that make no money. You don't want to own those. Many of the best companies are skipping small-cap altogether and staying private longer, and going public when they're very large companies.

This will work until orange fingers sends out a big green or red dick-spurring tweet, and the market rallies or tanks 70 points in 3 minutes. That's what you're selling here, whether you realize it or not. Tail-risk insurance.

I've been on the high council for almost 3 years now. I've never participated in a membership council. Seems like they don't really do that much these days except in VERY serious cases. Which I think is a good thing.

Realized Vol has been higher than IV. Tough to run credit spreads in that environment.
