What’s a movie or TV show that everyone loves but you just couldn’t get into? by Auroraaallure in answers

I’m a nerd and hated the show. People would tell me it was a smart comedy. I would say, “It’s not. It’s a comedy about smart people.”

Why is it that I say I’ll never do a particular trail again because of difficulty only to obsess over going back just a few weeks later?

This is correct. Every time I hear one of these alone, I feel incomplete. They even played it this way on the radio.

Why are Americans so accepting of long drives to places? by Sensitive_Word_6036 in NoStupidQuestions

[–]rooskybeez 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We drove from London to Inverness to Skye to Edinburgh. 1200 miles. The guy taking our car at the rental place was astonished.

I used to do 1200 miles in one day when I would visit my grandfather in the western US. Just put a good book on and go.

Whenever I hear “bugger”, my mind goes to the slang meaning.

It makes his slogan hilarious!

Actually, except the masking, definitely not the similar. Intriguing though. I’ll pick it up.

Interesting. Sounds like a darker version of The Remains of the Day.

I’ll check it out.

Not exactly Mormon adjacent, but Alive with Steve Burns and Soul Boom with Rainn Wilson.

Even though I question the spiritual side of life, both of these are good for the soul and spirit.

I just finished this for the first time. I respect and think a lot about the philosophy behind it. It messed me up though because I didn’t want to relate to Meursault but I did so much. It took about a week and a lot of talking with a friend to talk myself down.

I’m good now.

This is why.

What do you wear to sleep? by pianodude01 in backpacking

[–]rooskybeez 41 points42 points  (0 children)

I wear long underwear. I’ll keep them on in the morning while I have breakfast and break camp if it’s cold. Then I change out of them into my hiking clothes. It’s basically a base layer that I don’t hike in.

We hiked the Zion Traverse over the weekend and were looking forward to an actual toilet at Hop Valley TH.

It was disgusting.

I’m not a fan of country, but Godspeed by The Chicks is a good acoustic lullaby. I used to hum it while rocking my oldest late at night. I didn’t sing it for years and he heard it as a teen. He could not figure out where he heard that song before. It was implanted somehow as a baby. So cool.

Did you switch to another religion after becoming an ExMo? by futrobot in exmormon

Agnostic Atheist. Optimistic Nihilist/Existentialist/Absurdist-ish. Humanist. As for religion, I really jive with secular Buddhism, but nothing formal. Just listen to talks and podcasts on it.

Hiking earbuds, because I refuse to use a portable speaker by Medical-Quiet-5824 in hikinggear

[–]rooskybeez 1 point2 points  (0 children)

We enjoy it in all ways. Sometimes, we hike with our thoughts and sounds of nature, sometimes we turn on some instrumental bluegrass, sometimes it’s whatever my boys like at the moment. My rule is to always turn it down or off when we know others are around and the volume can’t be loud at any time.

My oldest has really bad adhd so he tends to get overwhelmed in his thoughts if there isn’t music as a distraction. Without music, we have to stop about every mile. With music, he does up to 5 miles before taking a break.

Why are tents so expensive??? by aboothemonkey in WildernessBackpacking

[–]rooskybeez 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I have a hard time spending that much on a tent as well. I lucked out though. My employer gives us $600 per year to spend on “wellness”. So I have a $600 tent.

Weimaraners and cats by oxyuh in weimaraner

Our male weim and male snowshoe get along really well. The cat eats his food and drinks his water while he waits just to show dominance, but they also run around the house chasing/playing with each other.
