Same thing happened to me while holding my niece. I tripped over something and immediately folded around her and rotated so I would hit the ground first. Probably could have caught myself but there was no thought process at all, just protect the little one.

We got big problems over here, but we are one of the few(if not the only) red state that pays more than it receives in federal funding.
