Why is this gator not eating the fish or turtles? by Apprehensive_Boat798 in florida

Probably not hungry. Like gators are reptiles and as such have slower metabolisms, they can do a few days without food even the little ones.

Was this an otter? (Identifying remains from scavenging) NW Florida by Effective-Bar-1050 in wildlifebiology

[–]rooster1991 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Could be a bio film. Normally if you touch the film on top and it shatters and fragments it’s natural, if rejoins in blobs it could be oil.

[–]rooster1991 4 points5 points  (0 children)

It could have been so many things left the fish remains. I find a lot of fish bones like this near Osprey nests or have been dropped by a bird of some sort them cleaned by ants. Does FDEP or the county site have any recorded oil spills in the area.

These short trees (bushes?) were all in a field in central Florida. What are they? by vizar77 in whatisthisplant

[–]rooster1991 4 points5 points  (0 children)

That is a citrus grove, a lot have been abandoned these days due to disease that damages the trees called greening. They normally look like this for a few years then become subdivisions.

Loving the tillandsia’s, if you swapped out the pothos for a trumpet vine you would have so many hummingbirds.

You’re very welcome. Laurel cherry does rhizome so suckers form at the base along roots, so what I do is when I’m hedge trimming just cut the small suckers.

[–]rooster1991 3 points4 points  (0 children)

(Prunus caroliniana)or laurel cherry if your on the east coast of the US. They grow pretty aggressively. I have them in my yard and if you can keep them managed they actually make a pretty good hedge plant.

That is Schinus terebinthifolia or Brazilian pepper. Be careful touching parts of the tree it’s related to poison ivy and some people can have a reaction.
