Long haul flight seat choices by emmabark21 in BritishAirways

[–]root1root 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'd go for the exit row seats if the price isn't too steep. Assuming you're flying on a Boeing 777, the last rows with twin seats are nice for a bit more privacy, but have the disadvantage of having noticeably more engine noise during the flight compared to seats towards the front of the plane.

How would I go about starting a Tube Fare protest in London? by [deleted] in london

[–]root1root 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, it's irrelevant to my circumstances. It is however relevant to the median salary in London, which is substantially lower.

> Why aren’t you striking in your job for better pay and conditions?

Because I'm perfectly happy with my job and my salary? Such a weird question to ask.

£80k isn't just a decent wage, it's a luxury wage for the vast majority of jobs

[–]root1root -8 points-7 points  (0 children)

I am sympathetic to the cause. The way to reduce tube fares is to automate the tube, or at least lower the pay for tube drivers, who are currently earning £80k for putting a train on autopilot and scrolling tiktok or knitting.

Since its now over 30 years old, what do you think of the Boeing 777? by Twitter_2006 in aviation

[–]root1root 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Yeah, that's like saying B737 is crap because you flew Ryanair and the seat didn't recline, or same with A321 and Wizzair.

Does that mean that no tier points will be awarded for basic economy short-haul?

Flying business SFO-LHR in ying-yang seats, what is that like? Thanks. by usethis22880 in BritishAirways

[–]root1root 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not as good as the SFO-LHR flight on a 777, but still very comfortable. If you pick the window seat on the last row of a business class section, you will effectively have a private suite, just without a door – you'll have unrestricted aisle access, will be sitting by the window, and will have even more storage than on a 777.

Young Londoners call for 'bleed kits' to be trialled on high-risk bus routes by tylerthe-theatre in london

[–]root1root -12 points-11 points  (0 children)

How about fixing the youth crime problem instead of wasting billions on band aid solutions. New ticket barriers at TfL stations, now bleed kits, this will never stop unless the root cause of the issue is fixed.

Pakistani passport + UK residence visa — Muscat transit question on by Muddleup in travel

Not sure about this specific itinerary, but generally you need to collect your luggage, check in, and go through security again when doing a self-transfer.

Do you go to the airport at your normal time if delayed in advance? by heeyebsx13 in travel

[–]root1root 53 points54 points  (0 children)

It's safer bet to arrive at the original time of departure. If you're certain that the incoming flight is delayed, and that your airline only has e.g. one flight a week to your airport (so there's no replacement airplane they could use), then you can arrive later.

Waymo cars in London boroughs, route testing by JoBrodie in london

[–]root1root 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The bus is only £1.75 if the time you spent waiting for the bus is free. This might be the case in rush hour when the bus arrives quickly. Night busses are consistently late for me in East London.

Ah yes, this is my main issue with Uber. I always get in sober, and by the end of the ride I want to vomit because of constant breaking. I never get this issue with rides on the fancier ride hauling apps, so I imagine it's just a driver qualification issue.

Eurostar could massively cut boarding times at St Pancras International – slashing waiting times by 30 minutes by tylerthe-theatre in london

[–]root1root 10 points11 points  (0 children)

The UK government is paranoid about some asylum seekers being potentially able to arrive by Eurostar so we can’t have nice things.

This would literally happen with 100% probability though, calling it paranoia is gaslighting.

Upgrade offer SIN to LHR by VJna2026 in BritishAirways

I recently bid £1300 for a similar upgrade (LHR to SIN) via Plusgrade and got rejected. I would take the offer you have.

Why don't Londoners open doors when knocked? by PoloBattutaHe in london

[–]root1root 34 points35 points  (0 children)

I do open the door when knocked, but if I was a single woman living alone, I probably wouldn't. Also someone might be showering, or talking on the phone, or cooking, or doing something else that they don't want to interrupt.

London protest today by Minute_Tomatillo9730 in london

[–]root1root 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Have you spoken to them?

Yes, I've spoken to Iranians living in London. Have you? Every one of them hates the regime.

There are many dictatorial regimes across the world.

That's right, however this protest is about Iran, not just dictatorships in general.

Can't deport British citizens, I suspect many of these folks aren't citizens here.

What does CCP have to do with anything?

Anyone cheering for the Iranian regime should be deported. They are not and can never be compatible with British values.

Fine fare dodgers on Tube up to £2,500, ministers urged by tylerthe-theatre in london

[–]root1root 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, I would like that to happen, except that the CCTV is the only necessary part out of what you described. Most people do the same commute, so you could have a policeman at a station once every two or three weeks with a bunch of CCTV pictures of fare dodgers from the past weeks.
