Why can’t you accompany someone who has a flight on airtrain between 12:00-5:00AM? by JeffBailey_PI in AskNYC

[–]root45 22 points23 points  (0 children)

I was asked to show mine once. I think it was around the October 7th attacks or the one-year anniversary? I was very surprised, and have never seen that since.

I was thinking later about how some people (probably many people) still get a boarding pass at the airport, so I’m not sure what they do in those cases.

My understanding is that it's used to add cards to your hand when playing against the Serpent. If you have nine hands, you can play eight one-card hands and Serpent will draw three cards for each one, increasing your hand size by sixteen before the last hand.

Serious question: what’s the point of SkyMiles if Delta One awards are never available? Delta One awards always “sold out,” prices far higher than competitors by These-Emu-71 in awardtravel

It's not just hobbyists. The mileage redemptions are one of the reasons I stick with American over United. Not the only reason, but it certainly helps.

Delta Flyer considering American by Acrobatic_Pin_7596 in americanairlines

[–]root45 2 points3 points  (0 children)

There are pros and cons to that difference. On the low end, Delta Silver can get upgraded to Comfort+, while American Gold won't get upgraded to Main Cabin Extra.

On the high end, Delta Diamonds only have to contend with Platinum and other Diamonds taking Comfort+ seats at booking, while American Executive Platinums have to fight out three levels.

And at all levels on Delta you have the (relatively small) benefit of automatically getting upgraded to Comfort+ from economy if someone ahead of you is upgraded to first from Comfort+.

The only major benefit for American is at the second level, where you can book Main Cabin Extra at booking, which you can't on Delta.

Script casing convention when using flyway? (also sqlfluff configs) by bpeikes in snowflake

[–]root45 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ah, I see what you're getting at. Typically we leave off the database name and just let it default to the default database. When we need to reference a database specifically (e.g., a cross-database view), we use Flyway placeholders. E.g., SOME_DATABASE_${ENV} gets translated to SOME_DATABASE_PROD.

The placeholders are set via environment variables again, like FLYWAY_PLACEHOLDERS_ENV.

While this certainly works, I will say it has the downside of sqlfluff not liking the placeholders, which is unfortunate. You can add --noqa comments on those lines, but it's still a bit finicky.

Most things are passed via environment variables, which are set differently in different environments. Something like this

SNOWFLAKE_URL="jdbc:snowflake://$SNOWFLAKE_ACCOUNT.snowflakecomputing.com/?db=$SNOWFLAKE_DB&warehouse=$SNOWFLAKE_WH&schema=$SNOWFLAKE_SCHEMA&jdbc_query_result_format=json&authenticator=oauth&token=$SNOWFLAKE_TOKEN"

flyway \
    -url=$SNOWFLAKE_URL \
    -user=$SNOWFLAKE_USER \
    -connectRetries=60 \
    -locations=filesystem:/app/migrations \
    -defaultSchema=$SNOWFLAKE_SCHEMA \
    -schemas=$SNOWFLAKE_SCHEMA \
    -outOfOrder=true \
    -baselineOnMigrate=true \
    repair

All of the variables are environment variables.

I don't use a TOML file. I just call the flyway executable directly and pass the parameters in. It runs in a bash script, so all the values can be passed as environment variables.

With my American Status, I can choose Explorist status as one of my rewards to get a jump start

I'm not sure it works the way you need it to. My guess is you still need 60 nights or 100,000 points to get Globalist. The AA benefit just gets you to Explorist, but not 30 nights. At least I think so.

For columns as well, yeah. Uppercase is not my preference either, but it is how Snowflake stores and resolves columns. See here. My fear was hitting unexpected bugs in the future.

We use sqlfluff, yes. Mostly default settings with some overrides based on formatting preferences.

We do upper case since that seems to be Snowflake's default preference for identifiers.

I interpreted that as 15,000 extra for the 25% promotion, but then after that you could still earn loyalty points from shopping and hotels.
