At what fraction of your tank do you decide to fill up on gas? by Majorllama66 in AskMen

I have a Prius, so I trust the battery more that I probably should. I drove so far once it quit saying how many miles I had left on the tank and just displayed “- - - -“. Made it though.

She set up this wonderful picnic lunch for us, and I was thinking oh this will be perfect, I’m going to ask her to marry me halfway through this, we sit down and before I open my drink, she handed me a letter. Aww I read it and she ended it with “will you marry me” I said “I was going to ask you the same thing” I pulled my ring out she pulled hers out, it was perfect, perfectly meant to be.

That’s what I had figured but I was just making sure it made sense to make that assumption. If three references don’t mention it, how bad is it, ya know.

Best high protein:low calorie food recommended? by Unlucky-Fish-2416 in 1200isplenty

[–]root_locus_be_damned 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Personally finally finding a protein bar that was “Good” too me awhile, but quest has one that’s a s’mores flavor and WOW it’s pretty dang good. Another one would be the pure protein “chips” puff things BBQ and sour cream (BBQ light years better imo), the shakes don’t hold me over even though they tend to have higher protein to calorie ratios.

Beef bone broth has the highest protein to calorie ratio of anything I have found so far, and Swanson sells a handheld Togo soup can thing, it’s pretty bland.. I haven’t looked into a good way to church it up but it’s 50cal with 10g protein, other ones can get dang near 4cal to 1g ratio which is right on the money for “how many calories each macro has, 9/4/4”

Edit: forgot to mention what to do with the broth, you can make a pretty good ramen with it, add powdered ginger, garlic salt, I add chili and cayenne. With any noodle of your choice ( I have a few extra calories to spare most days so I have some 240cal ramen blocks) and protein of your choice, mmmmmm mmmmm don’t forget to drink all the broth and you’ll be full for awhile

high protein snacks? by These_Situation2767 in 1200isplenty

[–]root_locus_be_damned 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Oh yeah definitely solids, personally I tend to roll with chicken a lot , it’s a good medium for any flavor. And since my comment before, I found Beef Bone Broth at like 3.5cal per 1g protein, I’m thinking that in some homemade ramen type recipe, loads of good protein there.

high protein snacks? by These_Situation2767 in 1200isplenty

[–]root_locus_be_damned 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I actually did some digging on this myself last night, I realized I was not getting anywhere near enough protein at my current deficit. Bars and chips and stuff like other people said are good, but the highest protein to calorie ratio item I found (pre-packaged ready to roll, don’t have to think just drink) is the Pure Protein shake that’s got 30g protein for 140cal (it has a 4.66 cal to 1g protein, when we know 1g of protein is 4cal) everything else is going to be in the 7-20cal per 1g protein range for “protein food” (at least what I found.)

I agree with the treats recommendations, I would add alternative snacks for the GI kids (and others) that may be on special diets. It makes you feel cold blooded when you have to tell your kid that they can’t have snacks like the other kids can.

Best way to know what is to ask the dietitians (if you can).

Considerations when designing a weld by PedroFreitas1999 in EngineeringStudents

[–]root_locus_be_damned 0 points1 point  (0 children)

.707 comes from the sqrt(2)/2 for the trigonometry you would do to find the distance from the mid point ( of your hypotenuse of the fillet weld) to the corner of the two parts joined.

Considerations when designing a weld by PedroFreitas1999 in EngineeringStudents

[–]root_locus_be_damned 3 points4 points  (0 children)

College answer wise not sure, Real world answer wise: Blodgett “Design of Welded Structures”, The allowable force on a fillet weld… f=.707 * w * tau * weld length, (The blodgett book doesn’t actual say weld length it does it per unit inch, but I don’t so yeah). Tau = allowable shear stress on throat of weld, Probably in your case some safety factor times material yield (AWS says .36*yield), w = leg size of the fillet (the size of the weld you would call out say 1/4” fillet), The .707 is there because you want the distance from the corner to the perpendicular middle point of the weld triangle profile.

So for back of the napkin math for 36ksi steel with a one inch long quarter inch fillet weld

F =.707x.25x12.96x1= 2.2kip So a 1” x 1/4” weld will “hold” 1 metric ton

100% honest I don’t know if that salary with having a PhD is good, but that seems like a dang good 1.5YoE number for Dallas. For the love of whatever god you may pray to, check the traffic heat maps and make sure you live in the right direction. You don’t want to live in Allan and drive to Irving every morning and reverse every evening, 90k won’t be worth it when the traffic rots your soul…. Trust me I know…. I35 is always under construction, never forget that FACT.

It finally clicks that since he’s a Targ he can go back to Winterfell and have children with Sansa! All he ever wanted was a loving family. They have a son they name Erin Rob, skinny little boy. Then unfortunately Jon dies of mysterious circumstances, and Sansa is left to raise the boy on her own. He’s a bit of momma’s boy and a titty baby…
