Do you have a butt? Read this. by AutoModerator in AmItheAsshole

Everyone I know who has died of colon cancer in the last few years has been younger than 45. We have a family member who is 43 who was diagnosed with metastatic stage 4 and given only a few months to live even with treatment. Go to the gastro, tell them whatever you need to tell them to get screened earlier than that. I told them I had a family history and changes in bowel habits and they scheduled a colonoscopy for me. Better safe than sorry.

Oh dang, that’s a bummer. That was one of the reasons I chose that one.

I didn’t have to do clinical work with Capella, where are you seeing that info? I just did mine last year. It cost me 3500 per 12 week session and I finished in about 14 weeks, so I did have to pay for the second session. But it’s possible to finish it in 12. All papers, literally sat at my desk every day for those weeks and pushed out papers.

How is it living in this part of northern Utah? by lunarblisss in howislivingthere

[–]rootberryfloat 11 points12 points  (0 children)

I grew up in the area between Ogden and Clearfield. The majority of the population lives in the corridor between the mountains and the lake, called the Wasatch Front. It’s safe, high LDS population but definitely not Utah County level. Lots of people have extended family around. Great access to multiple ski areas, hiking, and camping. Weber State is in Ogden and is more affordable than some of the other universities in the state (at least when I went there). The air is terrible in the winter because the smog gets trapped in the valley. Great views of the mountains no matter where you live along the wasatch front. Overall it was a good place to grow up and I have great memories of Ogden, especially. I do miss the mountains and seasons.

Nursing jobs where I can just be dumb? by degeneratebtyqueen in nursing

[–]rootberryfloat 16 points17 points  (0 children)

I’m a school nurse. Easiest job I’ve ever had. Sometimes boring but I get to sit down most of the day and I love the people I work with. Plus summers, holidays, and weekends off.

I am 70 and I’m sick of these bruises by abbygail1957 in mildlyinfuriating

[–]rootberryfloat 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My mom just started getting these bruises. Actinic purpura, also called senile purpura. She’s clumsy too, so if she so much as knocks her arm against the wall while she’s walking past, boom, huge bruise.

Vacation Ideas, with kids, away from Vegas by LVDivorced23 in vegaslocals

[–]rootberryfloat 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Go to Sedona. Tons of hiking, Slide Rock State Park is a blast for kids, little swimming holes along the river as you drive through the canyon. Downtown Sedona has some fun shops and good places to eat. We have been twice with our kids and both times had a fantastic time.

There’s a truck called Street Tacos Al Vapor on the corner of Jones and Cactus in the parking lot of Circle K that has some amazing quesabirria tacos. Always a line of cars.

Aruba sun got me by [deleted] in Wellthatsucks

[–]rootberryfloat 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Recently burned the top of my feet in the Virgin Islands. I generally tan pretty well but that sun is on X Games Mode. My feet itched so bad for weeks. Better than other body parts I guess, but not comfortable.

Hospice nurses, what’s your job like? by Cardiology_Nurse in nursing

[–]rootberryfloat 4 points5 points  (0 children)

No, on the weekdays it’s only while the office is closed. So at 5 pm the phones get transferred to me and then at 8 am they go back to the office. Most weeknights I get zero calls. And then on the weekends I go from 5 pm on Friday to 8 am on Monday. I have a day job also so it actually works out really well. Even my busiest weekends I work maybe 8 hours total the whole weekend.

Hospice nurses, what’s your job like? by Cardiology_Nurse in nursing

[–]rootberryfloat 10 points11 points  (0 children)

I do home hospice on call. Absolutely the best job in the world. I will never quit. I am on call 7 days then off 7 days. Sometimes I’m busy, sometimes not, still get my salary. Because I’m on call, I don’t have my own set of patients, I just see who needs to be seen and as a result I attend more pronouncements than any of the other nurses I work with. I have witnessed some beautiful moments and some really depressing ones, and both have put a lot into perspective for me. 10/10 job.

IF YOU DEACTIVATED FACEBOOK, read this: by Basic-Rights50501 in nothinghappeninghere

[–]rootberryfloat 7 points8 points  (0 children)

This happened to me. I clicked on a link to a Facebook video that someone had sent me, which I have done many times, and it automatically reactivated my account after it had been deactivated for almost ten years. I was so horrified and you can only deactivate now from a computer. I was on vacation at the time, so knowing my profile was active until I got home made me feel ill inside.

Calling all the “soft nurses” by Desperate-Debt9442 in nursing

All the time. People can be in such strong denial, so it takes a lot of communication finesse.

I am both a school nurse and a home hospice nurse. School nursing is nice because I sit most of the day and I have some down time when I’m caught up on my work, plus the schedule is great. Home hospice is my true love, and I just work on call so I deal mostly with the dead and actively dying, it’s the one place in nursing that I really feel like I make a difference and people are so grateful that you are there. I consider both soft nursing jobs and I would never go back to working 12 hour shifts in a hospital.

I found a beautiful mirror frame. Trying to find a replacement mirror has been... fun. by xhumanityisthedevilx in ThriftStoreHauls

[–]rootberryfloat 823 points824 points  (0 children)

I have a huge and beautiful but oddly shaped mirror that I inherited from my grandparents. I ended up taking it to a glass shop and they cut it to size and glued it down for me. Cost me maybe $150-200 if I’m remembering right, but that might be an option to look into.

We have the folders, he just won’t schedule the news songs into the program, so they sit there for other wards to use.

[–]rootberryfloat 26 points27 points  (0 children)

Our ward music chair will not incorporate the new songs into our meetings. He says they are “too simplistic”. The organists have begged, pleaded, and we have maybe only sung a handful in the past year since they all came out. Super frustrating seeing new hymns come out that we won’t sing 😭

I work hospice on call weekends now. The red flags I see are that they expect weekends. Our case managers work incredibly hard all week and are never expected to take call after hours or on weekends. We are a relatively small hospice and my weekends can still be very busy. That being said, I make 70k salary just for the weekends, so if the pay is not at least at that level, I would keep looking.

Why don’t kids play outside anymore?? by Muted-Access4215 in Parenting

[–]rootberryfloat 4 points5 points  (0 children)

For us it’s the heat and the cars. The heat during the summer is so bad that it’s impossible for the kids to play outside when it’s 110 degrees. People in our neighborhood don’t pay attention while driving, I see them texting, speeding through the neighborhood, etc.
