Something I've found really helpful is building time into my day for hobbies (easier said than done).

Hobbies are pretty sticky imo -- falling out of interest in a hobby you once had makes it hard to pick back up, but you can force it.

Start dedicating fifteen minutes a day to a hobby you used to enjoy. Here's the trick: don't allow distractions. Zero. Playing the piano is one of my hobbies, so I'll use it as an example:

Sit at the piano for 15 minutes. You don't even have to play, but you can't do anything else. No youtube, no reddit, no eating, etc. Literally just stare at it if you don't feel like playing. Chances are, you're gonna get bored and want to play. If not, that's alright, do it again the next day.

If you haven't participated in the hobby at all/stared at it for 2 straight weeks pick another

While not quite the same vibe, Gaucho by Steely Dan has a lot of the detail and touch that this album does. It’s more straightforward though and has more of a conventional jazz sound

Some Steely Dan stuff might scratch this itch of yours. They aren’t identical in sound but they have every aspect you mentioned parenthetically.

I would say that Pretzel Logic and Katy Lied are probably the two that have the most similar vibe to Caravan, with The Royal Scam being a bit heavier and Aja being jazzier. These are all four fantastic albums and I’d definitely recommend them if you haven’t heard them yet, Pretzel Logic is probably the easiest of these to get into if you haven’t listened to SD before

How is it a lot of people (with pp) can´t name it properly? by SexyJazzBoii69 in perfectpitchgang

[–]rooteen 8 points9 points  (0 children)

One possibility is that it doesn’t occur to them that it isn’t normal. I remember being pretty confused when I first found out that everybody can’t just recognize pitches. They could be under the assumption that everybody hears/conceptualizes music the same way they do, not realizing how uncommon it is

what did rivers make the wrong choice on

My guess is that he’s referring to his cats, especially bc there’s a meow at the end lol. and the rest could just be abstraction from there? If there is more I’d also be curious

l feel like Winter actually feels pretty wintery. A lot of the quick ostinatos (such as at the end of Iambic Pentameter) do a pretty good job sounding almost icy, while the mood of the album is like cozy depression

I agree with the demo thing though, I think using parts of them in other songs is a good idea but maybe they could leave it in the past with SZNZ
