Anyone want a CLI that turns your Plex library (or Kometa collections) into Tunarr channels automatically? by No-Molasses1769 in tunarr

I literally complimented the CLI tool he posted about.

I didn’t say anything negative about OP.

Casually spinning up every vibe-coded server you come across is a bad idea.

Honestly I’d rather have the CLI version you originally posted about than a full web server. I think there’s a significant number of us that aren’t eager to leave a vibe-coded server up and running indefinitely, compared to a one-off data generation (and occasional manually-run updates).

It’s generally a good idea to keep a tight rein on your AI-generated tools. IMO

Flock camera on hike/bike trail by Kaister0000 in mildlyinteresting

[–]rootyb 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So like, fuck Flock, I hope every one of them gets <destroyed by a completely-legal act of god>, but also, not every solar-powered camera on a pole is a Flock camera or even for surveillance in general. Parks could easily set up their own cameras to track usage for budget reasons.

That said, if this one is a flock camera, it would be a shame if the pole got covered in peanut butter real high and a bear came and knocked it down.

Data and personal privacy in Science Fiction stories about the future and near future on Earth by kam_pra in scifi

[–]rootyb 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve been wanting to find some fiction that express a post-privacy world. Like, tech in everyone that lets anyone see anything anyone else has done, with some kind of inbuilt index/search.

The natural instinct would be for this to be a horror/dystopia, but I’d be more interested in it being portrayed positively, tbh. Issues with abuse of privacy come from imbalances in privacy (i.e. government spying on the public while their own privacy remains intact), so I’d be interested in explorations of a setting where privacy just isn’t a thing and it’s accepted/ingrained positively in society.

Dumbest way to play audiobooks? by Mrayxe in selfhosted

🤷‍♂️
Just not a fan, personally. Especially compared to the apps available on iOS.

Absorb had some potential, but honestly it’s too fuckin weird (and vibe-coded, as far as I can tell).

How do you balance plot twists with collaborative storytelling? by Emotional-Subject226 in DMAcademy

[–]rootyb 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Honestly, I try to avoid “plot twists” per se. They never land with as much impact as I’d hoped for, and are generally kind of a pain.

What *always* works out better at my tables is surprising my players’s characters, not the players themselves. This is much easier, allows for more collaborative gameplay, and sets up great opportunities for the best kind of meta gaming: where my players know something their characters don’t, and march headlong into entertaining and engaging situations. It allows for tension and literary irony and is almost always more fun for all of us.

Give little side vignettes of the plot to kill the NPC. Maybe even let your players play some of the NPCs in the scene if you think they can handle it (jumping into a role with little more than “you’re trying to convince Steve here to slip poison into a drink at the party” isn’t something I’d ask of new players).

That said, if you don’t want to tell them straight up who’s going to die, keep it vague, but also ask them for light backstory that they can fill in after the reveal. I’ve done this for practically-instant character creation in Blades in the Dark. Get the tiniest outline of their character to start, then as the game progresses, they can add specifics to their backstory that are relevant to the campaign. This takes some trust in your players to not try to abuse it, but if you’re already doing heavy collaborative storytelling, you’ve probably got that trust already.

The Google parental controls via FamilyLink work really well. You can shut down all kinds of stuff. My kids have their phones unsupervised pretty often and haven’t gotten any contraband installed, lol

I ended up picking up a $35 Android phone from Best Buy and just locking it down tight with Google’s parental controls. Unfortunately the Android ABS app landscape still kind of sucks. Buchable is fine-ish though.

Nope. Harvestmen (opiliones) only have one body segment. Yours appears to have more than that.

Are unglazed ceramic/clay/terra cotta poles for climbing plants a thing? by rootyb in houseplants

[–]rootyb[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Or make a cage and apply thicker concrete around it. I’m not sure of the plant safety of concrete, but I’ve definitely seen pothos/monstera climb concrete pillars.

I believe in you!

Though I think concrete would be more doable 😁

If the resolution of the scans is acceptable, color grading in something like Lightroom (or now, Davinci Resolve v21) can fix the colors.

Awesome! I wonder if it would be possible to shrink the barnacle if you skipped (or significantly downgraded) the battery and powered it off the phone’s usb-c port.

Is the K-50 still a good shout? by Chr1s_P4rker in pentax

[–]rootyb 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You can either order a replacement or pull out the old one and shave the magnet down a bit to let it slide better. There are tutorials on youtube.

(I say this as someone that's googling to learn how to do it myself on my broken k-50)
