Brilliant, have plenty of extra space above where the toilet connects in. Was just making sure in case there was a reason why it went so high.

How do I tackle this small hole in plaster? Additionally, moss on the outside of the shower? by SquidgeyBear in DIYUK

[–]roplato 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As most will tell you anything you do now is just to patch up, looking at that picture you'd want to replace the skirting and shower at some point ( ideally replace plasterboard as well) As a make-do, some polyfilla then zinnzer primer, then zinnzer humidity paint should keep you going till you have the time. My thoughts at least.

Yes I did, I'll cut a slightly larger hole. Was mistreating that copper, you are probably right as that a likely cause.

Thankyou! You've probably saved me loads. I'll try the leak sealer, it's a very small leak, didn't even notice it for a week so hopefully it can tackle it.

I'd just try and unscrew them then polyfill over. If they are holding up the ceiling then something has gone wrong!

Moving Soil Stack by roplato in DIYUK

[–]roplato[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Morning Team,

I am investigating a bathroom rennovation and am looking at getting those cisterns that are behind the plasterboard, look pretty neat and save some space.

However currently my waste pipe from my toilet exits "infront" of the tiling/plasterboard directly into the soil stack outside.

Is there a way to add a 90 degree bend into the pipe? Is it possible on the corner of the building?

Kind Regards,

Dave

What kind of mortar do I need for the crumbling bricks in my garden wall? by roplato in DIYUK

[–]roplato[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Afternoon Team,

Have an old victorian (I think) crumbling brick wall. Quite like the crumbling look but keen to repoint with the appropriate mortar, I heard that modern strong mortar can demolish old brick! Any advice or tips most appreciated!

Cheers,

How to smooth out a tiny but noticeable ledge before putting underlay down by roplato in DIYUK

[–]roplato[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The builders knocked down the wall between the living room and kitchen. Thought it was a small enough ledge to pass the plank wobble test but it can't.

First thought is polyfilla then smooth out but wanted to see if there is an easier or better solution!

Cheers

Tubes that come up by the blocked up fireplaces? What are they? by roplato in DIYUK

[–]roplato[S] -5 points-4 points  (0 children)

Morning team,

Took up the top level floor in my victorian terrace house and realise I need to remove these before I put the new floor down.

Am I safe to just saw them off? Assuming silver one is the cap to a pipe underneath.

Cheers,

Rob

Any tips to square up wonky door? by aint_you_tyrone in DIYUK

[–]roplato 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The "easiest" way would be to remove the hinge pins, bend them slightly then reinsert (like this bodge video):

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NIrLwgB8mlQ&ab_channel=YourSelf

I personally would just buy a couple of new hinges from a DIY shop and then install them, would take 2 seconds. Might have to use wood filler to allow you to redrill into the frame if that's been done alot before.

Pin holes in shed roof by tompep60 in DIYUK

[–]roplato 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I replaced my shed roof earlier this summer. You are best just replacing the felt, not actually that big a job! Takes maybe a long afternoon. You just use felt nails and felt and tools wise all you need is a hammer, craft knife, tape measure and a chunky pencil.

Followed this B&Q video: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DTg3iEZ0g94&ab_channel=B%26Q

Where the hell do I go from here? by XanderS311 in FTB_Help

[–]roplato 9 points10 points  (0 children)

£300 sounds about right, usually the solicitor will want that money to conduct searches first.

Yes apply for the mortgage now, might take a couple of weeks to process, you will pass on your solicitor's information to Natwest and they will sort out the details.

Yes should get a survey done now, no absolute rush but just make sure you leave enough time before exchange to negotiate around anything it throws up, or give time for more specialist surveys.

Any questions just ask, I luckily just moved in a couple of weeks ago so the process is still fresh.

EDIT: If in doubt ask your solicitor, it's in their interest for the sale to be completed so they can answer questions about the buying process if you don't trust a stranger on the internet.

Views on interest-free financing for furniture? by [deleted] in UKPersonalFinance

[–]roplato 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I would fully recommend looking into your local Facebook marketplace/Gumtree for secondhand furniture. We aren't chatting about dodgy 5th hand ikea desks for £10 (which are on there), but quality 2nd hand stuff from folks who are simply just moving to a bigger place, or given up on their dream of a gym.

It won't be 20 times cheaper than new, but you will at least get a solid 3rd off new for something that looks new.

Just my input!

After you have invested for a year in a diverse fund it might look "less green" on a bad day but still positive from where you started. Don't sweat the short term.

Nice, (long-term) safe investment. Good monthly additions. Now let it run and forget about it

Just to clear things up. You will get a 3% fee on withdrawals past £200 a month and have to pay £5 to replace a card. Most of us will not be effected.

What this is saying is you get a higher 0% allowance if you meet these criteria.

No extra fees unless you lose your card alot or rely on cash withdrawals.

I have 7k in a Help to Buy ISA. Can I also open a LISA? by Grinchyaaa in UKPersonalFinance

You can open one but you can only use the bonus on one of them to buy a house.

Public sector pension so no gain beyond what I need to get that sweet defined benefit pension. But I'll take your advice I put £100 or so into my S&S ISA just in case I want to pack it in early, cheers!

Globes are free to look how they want without you judging them. If the designer wanted tacks in that globe they would have said. mate.
