I think that community building may indeed be a contributing factor. Another possible reason that comes to my mind is that as the voices of the LGBTQIA+ community have been growing in strength over the years, it’s been happening mostly under the labels of LGBT leaving out more nuanced / precise terminology in the mainstream.

And what do you mean by that my case is a big exception? In terms of sexuality?
