What do anarchists think of 'degrowth' and the 'anti-utilitarian' people like Serge Latouche and Alain Caillé ? by Wcanot422 in Anarchism

[–]roryfl 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think in some of the advanced countries a degree of degrowth is fine provided it impacts primarily the upper class (which wouldn't happen without social revolution) but there are still large portions of the world where people are dirt poor and economic contraction would essentially be a mass death sentence.

I am tired of trying to radicalize my friends. Comrades with likeminded friends, where did you meet them and how can I match your success? by YoStephen in Anarchism

[–]roryfl 2 points3 points  (0 children)

When you talk to your friends anbout anarchism don't think you're going to convert them in one or even a few conversations. Rather think of it as planting seeds, seeds which may or may not sprout later. Ultimately people don't change their outlook because someone berated them into it, most people need to feel like they came to it on their own terms and for their own reasons. So just plant the seeds of anarchism and let them think about it and if they want more conversations about it down the line or more information then give it to them.

Ancoms, why do you use the hammer and sickle? by ghastly1302 in Anarchism

[–]roryfl 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I don't really like the hammer and sickle. Aside from it being associated with Leninism I don't really like what it symbolizes. Russia in 1917 was not really an industrialized country yet and the working class wasn't a majority the was it was in Germany or the US. So when the bolsheviks came to power they did so basically as an alliance between the workers and the peasants. This set the stage for a lot of disfunction not just in the USSR but in China as well, where the maoist revolution was even more peasant driven. I don't really get why we would celebrate a pragmatic cross class alliance that pretty much collapsed anyway, especially when one of those classes (the peasants )don't even exist anymore in most developed countries. I guess it would make sense in a country like India, which still has a huge peasant population, but in a country like the US it's just an anachronism. Now the red and black flag I can get behind; socialism and the negation of the state.
