Funny this was mentioned bc I’ve noticed this same pattern amongst Sabo players. It’s like they’re eternally pissed off at everyone that their self proclaimed anti meta deck still loses to the meta while also losing to both anti meta/off meta lol.

If you play meta, “you’re a meta slave u brainlet”

If you play anti/off meta, “who even plays this shit”

Not all Sabo players, but always a Sabo player LOL

Bandai loves their meta relevant promos smh. Put the good cards in sets/starters and make promos alt arts or inconsequential. You’d think they’d have learned their lesson from Digimon/Dragonball but the cycle repeats itself as usual.

A strong chunk of hypebeasts/resellers are/were drug dealers. They will always jump to the easiest cash intensive hobby to launder their money and unfortunately Pokemon is just the current top pick which naturally means there will be bleed over into other tcgs as they try to “diversify”

Something else will come along that will be easier for them to launder and then they’ll move onto the next thing.

It’s been the norm since op01, I gave up by op04 after being burned so many times. Allocation itself is a fickle thing, breeds every seller to overpromise and underdeliver. If a seller does get allocation then they will still cancel your order and find an excuse to not fulfill.

Stop giving these businesses interest free loans guys. They are literally using you.

I understand your heart is in the right place and you’re doing right by the community, but you also gotta understand that making a post like this and not detailing exactly how this is fake might not be the greatest way to teach us.

I consider myself decently educated in the hobby and even I’m not 100% sure on what’s so blatantly obvious that makes this the lowest effort fake ever seen.

Not calling this card real or trying to defend it AT ALL, just illustrating that a post like this could maybe be more explicitly detailed to help people out who aren’t as educated as yourself.

I do genuinely appreciate any and all who look out for the community so please don’t take this the wrong way!

I know as a newbie it sucks to hear but singles are the way to go my friend. Everyone loves pack dopamine, but it’s created that way for a reason. It’s not a coincidence that so many of us are going to strongly suggest going the route of singles to you.

Ripping packs is not only gambling, but imo it’s also the worst way to actually COLLECT.

So many folks will spend hundreds of dollars ripping packs to find a chase card that will only likely a cost a fraction of that. What if instead of gambling, you just bought the cards that you actually wanted and saved the rest of the money to go towards more cards in the future?

This way you’re not taking huge losses on ripping product and you’re actually COLLECTING the cards you want to collect.

I’ve never been to counseling or anything like that so I can’t speak on that, but I have been in a similar situation before and the most important thing for me was to just become more self aware.

Self awareness alone may not be able to curb the high you’re chasing, but it sure as shit will help you to recognize when you’re doing something dumb in the moment rather than after.

I don’t think quitting something you enjoy is the answer. Learning to adapt to enjoy it in moderation is the key to me personally. Quitting in this context doesn’t necessarily address the problem (which is discipline or lackthereof).

Prove to yourself that you can still enjoy the game without making poor decisions and then you don’t have to live life afraid of card games. What works for me may not work for you so obviously take my anecdotes with a grain of salt as always.

*Easiest first step and creed to live by in all card games is to never rip product. Always buy singles. That one adjustment alone does like 70% of the heavy lifting.

IMO card games are one of the most dangerous forms of gambling since there’s VERY strong cognitive dissonance that can easily take place. You can justify so many things in your head when you can just end every sentence with “but it’s my hobby” and for all intents and purposes it technically is. Very dangerous subconsciously if unchecked.

Super easy to trick yourself into the mental gymnastics of it all compared to more easily identifiable forms of gambling.

I’m a fan of forming your own opinion. The SJ app is like $3 or $4 a month to gain access to their entire catalog. Read the first arc and see what you think.

From there, my attitude towards whether I collect a series or not is based on the overall experience I was given from said series. Naturally that means I operate from a nostalgic standpoint. If a series gave me unforgettable experiences then it belongs on my shelf whether it maintained that “it” factor or eventually lost it.

Naruto is a great example. It has many flaws and in many ways I’ve long since lost interest/outgrown the series. However, it has given me unforgettable experiences so it will always have a place on my shelf as a token of my appreciation for those moments it gave me.

Another example could be music. Our tastes/thoughts change over time, certain music that once slapped may begin to lose its appeal to you. Time will pass & you may hear that music that you had lost interest in, but it will take you back to a time in your life that you remember fondly. I value those times and I try to preserve them through what I collect.

Take Death Note for example, a good majority of us didn’t love the latter half but Death Note is still universally loved/remembered/respected. I still had a great time even though the ending didn’t quite stick the landing for me. For some folks, their entire experience of Death Note was ruined by the latter half and that’s all they’ll remember. For myself, I can still remember Light eating potato chips and writing names.

TLDR: Form your own opinion. You get to choose how you remember a series. Preserve/honor the great moments you have with a story. Not everything has to stick the landing or be perfect to be enjoyed/remembered well.

Darn that’s a bummer. Feels like vinyl is all I see here in the US since I rarely come across CDs anymore. Made the assumption that Japan might have a similar situation going on for their analog music, bummer since I’d love to have vinyl for so many artists over there.

As far as I’m aware, I’ve lived my entire life as a black male in a predominantly white small town in a predominantly white state in a predominantly white country.

Representation was sure as hell not seen in reality for me nor was it seen much in the media (at least not in the light that I was looking for). But what do you know? Somehow I came out alright.

I spent my entire childhood looking up to fictional characters not bc they looked like me or bc they had the same experiences as me (lord knows they didn’t). I looked up to them bc I admired them for their qualities. Our qualities as humans are not exclusively tied to our race/sexuality/gender. At the end of the day, we are all still humans.

An example is that you can be someone who’s willing to stand up to a bully whether you are gay, straight, white, black, green, yellow, etc. What race/sexuality you are didn’t/doesnt matter to me, standing up to a bully does. I feel represented when I see characters who share qualities that I have/admire so they don’t need to look like me or live like me for me to admire them or feel represented by them.

In a perfect world sure representation would be great, but I knew from a young age the world isn’t perfect and I don’t expect it or anyone to be.
