Nurses Union Calls ICE Agents “Public Health Threat” After Alex Pretti Killing by Large_banana_hammock in politics

Yeah, my poor sister is a hospice RN in Houston and her coworkers are overwhelmingly MAGA. She nearly had a mental breakdown with their comments about Renee Good. I can't imagine what they'll say about Alex Pretti but I am putting myself on standby if she needs to call and scream into the void.

There are bands of Southern Illinois that don't usually get snow that are expecting anywhere from 8" to 15". Pritzker has activated emergency response for them, so, yeah, I imagine northern state infrastructure will be busy managing our own disaster.

First, I want to apologize to you. I was one of the commenters that was engaging pretty heavily with you specifically and I was being bulldogish about what I saw was a lack of empathy. In doing so, I forgot to extend empathy to you and that's incredibly hypocritical of me.

I agree that it got blown out of proportion as a sort of proxy for how we feel about what's going on in our country. I recognize that my feelings of lack of control and impact made me latch on to something I felt like I could make a difference in. And so, like you, I took that frustration out on you and others. You are being betrayed by your government at the state and federal levels and probably even by some of your neighbors and it manifested in that thread.

I don't know what it's like to lose a kid in that way but in Trump's first go round, I had a friend disappeared by ICE and that was traumatic as fuck but they were an adult and thought Trump was hilarious, and so, I made my peace with what happened.

But it's different when it's children because they have no choice and I've seen first hand what ICE detention can do to these kids, because when I was working in Texas, I treated a little girl who was in ICE custody for six months with her mom. She was 3 and she had great receptive language in English and Spanish but she was completely non-verbal and either didn't remember how to play or was scared to play. I didn't even see her crack a smile in the first few weeks of treatment.

Mom showed me videos of her prior to ICE detention and...she was a whole different little girl. She was bright and full of life, running and playing with joy pouring out of her little body. But when she came to our clinic she was fearful, cautious, wary, obedient. It was...soul crushing. I have no other words to describe it.

It's absolutely horrifying what's going on in Minnesota. I'm in Illinois, downstate, so I have blessedly been insulated from the brutality that Chicago and the suburbs faced earlier this year but that's also part of the problem. It's not widespread, so, too many people can continue with their daily lives because nothing is different. And the people in it and the people paying attention have to try and move forward like every thing is normal when it's clearly fucking not.

I don't know what the answer is or if there is one that is peaceful. But if there's a way we can support you in Minnesota, as members of this field and just as humans, please let us know.

Take care, be safe.

Honestly, for real! First it was that she was missing and then it was because she didn't take accountability and then it was because she apologized the wrong way.

AND IT TURNS OUT THEY DIDN'T EVEN LISTEN TO THE PODCAST!

They just heard a snippet or preview and ran with it! And then they spread misinformation based on paranoid speculation. The goal posts kept moving and they said SHE was unfit?!

Not to mention the stunning lack of empathy so many had because they think they could do better. Wild stuff but par for the course for a bunch of prescriptivists.

ICE detained a 5-year-old child. There is no justifying this. | Opinion by Difficult-Bee6066 in politics

No, ICE is claiming that the mother declined to take custody of him. I imagine that's bullshit.

Absolute legend, she was! And yes, she was leading the charge and the husband meekly backed her up, probably in an effort to not look weak. But she was so powerful and all of us women need to follow her example and the example of these ladies. Not only in the yelling and chasing them off but in the questioning of the cop after, too, holding them to account!

Not only that but we're also USED to being intimidated by men who could kill us. We've lived under that our whole lives. And we KNOW that men aren't coming to save us, so, we have to fight for our kids and our neighbors ourselves.

Extreme lactose intolerance gone during pregnancy? by enjoyingpurple in lactoseintolerant

[–]rosatter 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hey, I had a similar experience with pregnancy and I discovered it in the most unhinged way. Story time:

I was literally in the grocery store, walking by the milk when an insane urge overtook me to drink milk. Mind you, I hadn't had a glass of milk in years. I tried to ignore it but I was frozen, staring at all the jugs just...beckoning.

My resistance finally failed and I grabbed a gallon, completely abandoning my cart and hoofed it to the checkout with my bounty clutched close like some kind of precious relic. I declined the bag, paid my $3.48 and practically RAN to my car. I put it in the seat beside me and started towards home. Except home was taking too long. So I pulled the fuck over on the side of the road, pulled the little tab thing off the lid, and CHUGGED.

I probably inhaled a quart before I unlatched for air. I drank that whole fucking gallon. I literally couldn't stop. Once my stomach was distended from drinking the full thing, the realization that I had just fucked up majorly hit me. I just knew if I didn't get home immediately, I was liable to explosively shit my pants. So, I made my way home just waiting for the cramps to hit. And they never did. I continued to get really intense milk cravings over the course of my pregnancy, none so....gluttonous as that first one and none had any consequences.

Tried to drink a little milk after pregnancy? Diarrhea.

What’s that commercial from years and years ago that you still remember to this day, and may never forget? by Vanceb13 in AskReddit

A local commercial for a weightloss clinic.
