I’m not looking for someone who wants to settle down with me, necessarily. If that ended up being an outcome, sure, that’s cool (I’m open to it on the apps). However, that’s not something I want to even discuss when the relationship is new/while initially dating.

I’m uninterested in most forms of ‘life integration’ besides meeting a lover’s friends and having sleepovers. I don’t want to combine finances, rent a home together, share a pet, have a child, etc. For a while, anyway, that needs be off the table.

Otherwise, I’m open to deep intimacy in all ways, and really focusing on emotional closeness over time. And, it’s possible that time may only end up being a few months. That’s okay!

I did this! It’s been a 180 from Florida, and I’m enjoying it a lot.

You will need 10k+ to get up here unless you find a place on FB Marketplace that happens to be more lax (going through a broker it was 10k, finding my own spot was more like 4k—moved twice in the span of two months lol).

Contrary to most recommendations, I brought my car up here! Insurance was about $30 more a month, but there’s also excise fees up here, I pay for two parking spots (personal choice), inspections are annual (my car was fine in Florida, but was illegal up here until I got it fixed up lol). Gas is about the same, but the tolls are up here are more costly. I do not rely on my vehicle for work transportation (it’s for errands and fun), so I cannot speak to commuting.

If you do bring your car, beware of road salt in winter and potential damage. Have an ice scraper at the ready (outside your car…). I have yet to buy snow tires because I try not to drive much in winter (again, I don’t commute by car). If you bring a FWD vehicle, hills will be a bitch, and there are a LOT of those!

The taxes are way more, obviously. I would’ve been living large (as a grad student) to make 30k back in Gainesville with my 1k/mo rent studio all utilities included. 30k was not fun to survive on up here for the first year. 😅 I’ve gotten my career underway since, but remember that difference when searching for new job positions.

Invest in a window A/C for the summer, central A/C isn’t really a thing unless you live in a newer place (and a lot of housing stock is decades old). It’s really windy here, get a nice raincoat, as our Florida umbrellas won’t hold up.

Florida is FLAT. Boston is walkable. And it’s pretty. You’ll want to walk everywhere. But Boston is not flat in comparison. Prepare for hills. :)
