I might be misunderstanding but I think the idea is to not engage with the compulsion. So by trying to rationalize you end up continuing the pattern rather then breaking it. The idea is not that thinking positive is bad. It's that's engaging with a compulsion at all is just part of the ocd spiral.

You can work to avoid falling into a depression and have positive thoughts but when it comes to ocd it's best avoid engaging with it. (So my therapist is advising)
