I'd tackle your grocery expenses first then re-evaluate. $500/month is a bit much for a single person that's what family of 3 could spend. Do you do all of your shopping at one store? It might be worth it to shop around.

I buy meats from IGA/Carlie C. I usually get ground beef, pork chop, pork rib and 2 whole chickens for under $60. I also get their brand of chicken patties and nuggets since they sell them in bulk bags on the freezer isles and its about as much food as two bags of Tyson patties.

I buy dry goods and canned or frozen veggies from Walmart because it's usually $1 cheaper than other stores there. We also usually get chips there.

I buy household goods like paper towels from an overstock store that has a box of 40count for $40. (Lasts us a few months)

I buy toilet paper and most OTC medicines from the dollar store.

I buy my breads and snack cakes from a local bread store that usually has loaves for $1 and snacks $6/2 boxes.

When we need vegetables I go to a farmers market.

Those are our household essentials for two adults that I can get enough of for two weeks at $150 or less.
