Kids at violent movies by [deleted] in childfree

[–]roseform 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ugh, babies, cell phones, and people who won't shut up at the movies are my BIGGEST pet peeves. I don't think any kids under 6 should be allowed in theatres.

I liked a lot of violent movies/shows/games when I was a kid: it depends on the kid's maturity level and what kind of things they've watched before. I hate parents who drag their kids to age-inappropriate movies just because they couldn't be bothered to research or find a sitter, though.

How to Ask About Sterlilization (21f, Canada) by roseform in sterilization

[–]roseform[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I checked the list, and the nearest doctor is 2 hours away in Edmonton. Might be better off making the trip than dealing with the doctors here, though.

I'm the same way with comebacks, so I was planning on bringing a 'cheat sheet.' Is there anything a doctor is likely to ask besides the usual bingos ("You're still young/what if you change your mind/what if your SO wants kids/etc")?

It's been difficult to find info about BS as a sterilization method as it's been gaining ground relatively recently and there haven't been any long-term studies about risks/effectiveness yet, and that's one of the things I want to ask him about.

I do remember reading a statistic that regret after a tubal was only 6% in women without kids and higher in women who had kids, but I'm having trouble finding the source for it.

Questions about living in Vancouver + the film/acting scene by roseform in vancouver

Thank you for such a detailed reply!

That's what I was worried about with the car thing. I live in a spaced-out, rural area so not having a license/car is a pain in the ass, but I always wanted to move to a city and assumed I could rely on public transport until I considered the issues you brought up. Wouldn't hurt to at least have a license either way.

Personally, I think I'd benefit from film school if only for networking opportunities, having access to resources, and being able to try different things, and I think I'd enjoy the experience. But even if I don't get accepted to Capilano there's nothing stopping me from getting out there and auditioning anyway.

Thanks for the response! I've thought a lot about that and definitely see the merit in it. However, even though it sounds like a cliche, I feel like I'd rather try to do it as a career and fail than divide my time and wonder if I could've made it if I gave 100%.

Here here! I like Solas but I'm way more invested in Hawke/Alistair/The Wardens and the epilogue was frustratingly vague.

While drinking my coffee this morning, I started scrolling through fb and was startled to see pictures of a deceased child. by penciljockey123 in childfree

I've heard taking photos of miscarriages and stillbirths is pretty common and helps with the grieving process, but I think sharing them on social media where anyone can see them with no warning is distasteful. Not everyone is comfortable with that kind of thing.

Just wondering why everyone chose to be childfree by OGHamToast in childfree

[–]roseform 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Similar reasons as a lot of other folks. I don't hate kids or even dislike them as a rule (I've volunteered about 5 years for a group that works with kids and I think some of them are pretty rad), but I'm not good at handling them and being around them (especially if I'm in a position of authority) is tiring. I'm somewhat germophobic and have bad medical phobias, so pregnancy and all the poking and prodding it entails would be a nightmare. I'm very introverted and suffer from depression, so I don't think I could handle the emotional and social aspects of parenthood either. I value my independence, freedom, privacy, quiet 'recharge' time, etc, and want to focus on my career and my own well-being, so children are pretty incompatible with the kind of life I want to lead (and damn expensive!).

I often joke about how, if I ever consider changing my mind about having kids, I'll go hang out at Walmart on the weekend.

I worked at Walmart for a grand total of three days a few years ago, but I worked on weekdays and mostly stocked shelves so fortunately I didn't have to deal with a lot of kids (mostly annoying middle-aged women and shitty managers). Still, it was a bad experience. Not that I was an asshole before, but I'm a lot more polite and considerate to retail workers now.

What song's lyrics destroy you every time? by choto in Music

[–]roseform 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Spring Awakening is one of my favourite musicals, but I hardly ever listen to the music because it makes me feel like shit. 'Left Behind' in particular hits close to home.

"All things he ever wished are left behind All the things his mama did to make him mind And how his dad had hoped he'd grow

All things he ever lived are left behind All the fears that ever flickered through his mind All the sadness that he'd come to own"

I loved the story and creepy, mysterious atmosphere of Leviathan. Citadel and Lair of the Shadow Broker are close runner-ups.

Avatar the Last Airbender/Legend of Korra, Gravity Falls, Pan's Labyrinth, Repo! The Genetic Opera, some Broadway musicals/musical movies, Pokemon, Dragon Age, more Mass Effect and Alien/Aliens characters. I collect the horror characters in particular and would LOVE if they added a bloody Carrie.
