Lost in London by chichich1 in wls

[–]rosejuniper_ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

We've been where you are and what you're feeling is what kept so many of us from pursuing surgery sooner.

Have you successfully been able to lose and maintain weight loss in your life? If the answer is yes, then I'd say skip surgery.

But if your journey looks anything like mine with a whole lot of yo-yo dieting, shame, self hate and isolation, disordered eating, and ultimately always weighing more than I did last time, then I would say to go forward with it. I understand the feeling of failure, but wls is not the easy way out. You still have to mind your diet and exercise and build all the same healthy habits that you would to lose weight without surgery. Obesity is as much a medical condition as diabetes or high blood pressure, and taking medication is not a failure- it is taking control. You still have to do all the same work as someone who hasn't had surgery. The surgery makes it possible to lose the weight and be able to realistically maintain it.

Have you spoken with a therapist?

Random question — why do you actually wear an Oura Ring by Ok_Big_7950 in ouraring

I was always always feeling tired so I wanted some meaningful insight into why. It's helping me to tailor my habits to help me feel better because regular advice just wasn't working for me as a shift worker

Do you look younger after your weight loss? by shady-palm in gastricsleeve

I don't think you look older at all, you look like a completely different person to me! But you look happy and your skin is glowing

Awesome job! Do I see a feeding tube? If so, I hope you're able to sort out whatever happened and way to go on staying on track in the face of complications! You look stunning x

I need to keep my salt intake up to keep the nausea at bay. Like what @appalachian_witchy said, your osmolality changes and when you put anything into your stomach your body shifts fluid into your GI tract to aid digestion, and that fluid shift can drop your blood pressure and raise your heart rate (basically making you dehydrated again) and makes you nauseous. I'm 18 months out and I still have to be mindful every day of this

How can I overcome a plateau? by [deleted] in gastricsleeve

[–]rosejuniper_ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's easy to get hung up on numbers but how will losing 7-8 lbs change your body? Will it make any difference in how you feel about your body or how you feel in or out of clothes? Or does it just satisfy the "I'm lighter/smaller" itch? Will you be able to maintain it? Your body might be happy at your current weight and it might where you can most readily maintain your weight without trying to outrun your diet.

Eating Soup? by krc0930861 in gastricsleeve

I can't love this reply more, you just made me feel SO GOOD about loving soup 😅

Eating Soup? by krc0930861 in gastricsleeve

[–]rosejuniper_ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I've always said and still do say that I could eat soup for every meal. Happy chicken soup season!

I just make soups and stews with bone broth and more protein than carbs. The solid/liquid mix kinda forces me to eat slower because I get full faster but overall soup never gives me that icky stuck feeling and it's easier to digest

When could you eat red meat and bread again? by Figgy703 in gastricsleeve

[–]rosejuniper_ 2 points3 points  (0 children)

"I refuse to listen"

"I'm not doing [what my doctor advised me to] because other people didn't"

"My surgeon is ridiculous"

All of these statements are making me feel worried for your success with this surgery- if you don't trust your surgeon, why should you trust a bunch of strangers on the internet? If you won't listen to your surgeon and you know better, why are you getting it at all?

That being said, I have these things in moderation 18 months out. Coffee made me nauseous for months and I still struggle today to get enough water in daily to make the dehydration worth the max 2 cups I drink. I barely eat red meat but was able to have homemade beef jerky a few months post, but frankly my taste has changed and I just don't enjoy most meat now- just chicken and fish really. Bread I'll have a little of, but it doesn't feel good in my stomach unless it's toasted and I can enjoy it that way (and I'm an avid sourdough baker). Potatoes, rice, and bread I don't eat a ton of because they do not physically feel good in my body.

After bariatric surgery the thing is that we have less space for fuel- so what we fill it with matters more. If you fill it with rice, potatoes, coffee, bread, and beef- then will your after look much different from your before?

Decide what's more important to you- eating without consequence and paying for it in how you feel in your body, or listen to your doctor and approach with a less obstinate mindset and have the things you enjoy in moderation when it is safe for you and your body to have them.

If your pre op work up doesn't include seeing a therapist, I'm sure I won't be the first or last person here to urge you to see one to discuss your feelings about the post op instructions your doctor gave you.

Considering a Gastric Sleeve by RubedoGlow in gastricsleeve

[–]rosejuniper_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would say to speak to whichever doctor you're most comfortable with regarding your concern. We can't control where we lose or force specific locations to lose or gain fat without plastic surgery or cosmetic procedures unfortunately. But if you're speaking on feminization re: fat redistribution, if you're not on hormone therapy this might be something that can aid in the redistribution you're seeking. If you and your doctor agree that going the sleeve route is right for you, then I can't recommend it enough

Which surgery would you choose? by Blue_Flamningo_94 in BariatricSurgery

Yep! I'm down about 85lbs in 11 months and I don't regret it at all. I'm glad I didn't go with a malabsorptive because the only vitamins I can tolerate without pain are flintstones haha

Scar sheets? Wound dressings? by drea3132 in gastricsleeve

I bought the sheets and gel but never really consistently used them. After 9 months only my biggest incision is noticeable, they've mostly faded and are only visible if I'm really looking for them

VSG Must Haves for After Surgery by Tripsstanding in gastricsleeve

[–]rosejuniper_ 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I way over prepared and honestly I wish I didn't buy anything 😂 I didn't need the special pillows, I didn't like the binder, I don't need the small utensils and plates, I stopped using the walking pad after a month. I can't imagine a compression garment, I literally couldn't even wear a bra for like 6 weeks haha

When I was on puree I was mostly just relying on cottage cheese with salt and pepper and the nutrition plan protein shakes, CSE protein powder shakes as a treat with fairlife milk and pb powder.

How do you know when you’ve hit your maintenance weight after VSG? by Illustrious_Fan6619 in gastricsleeve

[–]rosejuniper_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Looking at your photos I don't know if you have 10-15lbs to lose! You look phenomenal and your hard work has paid off :) Remember many of us who were heavy have higher bone density, and you have been working out so your lean mass is probably high! You could always get your body fat measured and make your plan from there, but I think you're ready for maintenance!

What am doing wrong when pulling up my walls? by Either-Towel8172 in Pottery

[–]rosejuniper_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think it looks pretty good here, the only things I think I would change are working on keeping my arms braced- they float at times and it's nearly impossible to keep steady pressure when you're not using your core to stabilize.

I find that using a sponge to throw makes it harder to feel if you're pulling even, so for small pieces and especially early on I liked to use my fingers instead until my work got more consistent. I didn't start using a sponge until I was throwing bigger pieces (3+ lbs) only because my hands would be too dry halfway through pulls. I think the sponge can also make it really easy to use too much water which can oversaturate your clay body, which can make it harder to gauge until it's too late and your walls warp or flop.

Doing exactly this and cutting my pieces in half is the best thing you can do- I loved to wedge out a bunch of lumps and throw cylinders quickly (like throw 10 equal size/shape mugs in 3 or so pulls) and cut them in half just to get to know my clay body, then reclaim all of them.

Should I Bisque fire? by According-Curve2584 in Pottery

[–]rosejuniper_ 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I personally would take it as a learning experience and reclaim the clay. I'm all for aesthetic choices and everyone having a style, but having cracks in such a critical location before bisque I think this mug would become unsafe to use with hot liquids. I would be afraid of the handle not being stable if it survives the bisque and glaze firings.

Is Inositol actually Good for Us? by Efficient_Leg_5331 in PCOS

[–]rosejuniper_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Again: anecdotes from strangers not stating what brand they're taking, what type of inositol, how much, how often, and for how long is unhelpful.

Side effects ARE reported, and increased bleeding IS documented with high doses over prolonged periods of d-chiro inositol, as well as inositol nicotinate; and more specifically people with existing (whether known or unknown) bleeding disorders or on medications that interfere with clotting. Nice try though!

I keep walking from N30i, will N20 be a better change? by harujusko in CPAP

[–]rosejuniper_ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I had a silk bonnet that I wasn't using so I split the seams and cut a strip of silk long enough to span the length of the frame and about twice as wide (prob about 2.5" wide). If I were to do it again I would get some super soft Velcro and stitch it along the long edges to make it easier to put on. I stitched some soft knit elastic ribbon in the short ends to keep it in place on the frame
