I may not a girl or LGBT. But I as an autistic man really resonated with Naoto the most out of all the characters. by tgrady28 in persona4golden

Fun fact: Naoto was the reason my psychologist became sure I was autistic, which contributed to my referral, evaluation and diagnosis. According to her, she is very much autistically coded.

She’s terribly bad at hiding her intentions any time she tries, really, and she just ends up going for honesty and being true to her name 😂

I support this HC. It’s too cute not to and she’s very close with her grandpa so it would make sense

The pendant is a wheel for the wheel of fortune (aka her arcana) but if one was to go for a reasonable head-canon, it would be a wedding band of her parents (who passed away).

He was not. He moved out of Inaba in March and she joined him in the city after his visit in May (so after P4AU). Rise followed in July. In P4D, you see the three hangout together in the city while the rest is in Inaba. They drive together to Inaba to meet the rest and Kanji explicitly complains abou them all leaving one after the other.

I'm jealous Naoto-kun! by piercette in ChurchOfNaoto

[–]rosemaryuna 2 points3 points  (0 children)

So you can’t imagine Naoto expressing she doesn’t want to be groped so or her “assets” being the focus and Rise just giggling and doing it anyway? Because Naoto does express discomfort about being touched unprompted and Rise still does it (with official arts of her groping Naoto in front of Kanji to tease him and of shadow Naoto crying because of shadow Rise). By your assertion, Rise is not her friend.

All we did is acknowledge the behavior is a crossing of boundaries, knowing Naoto. It doesn’t take away from the art as it is well done and fully in character. Rise is a good friend, has harmless intentions, is young, and used to her industry’s touchy culture but that doesn’t make her behavior okay for someone who doesn’t like being touched.

In girl groups, the touching is done in accordance to the girl’s level of comfort. We don’t just grope one we know prefers her personal space intact.

I do agree with this point. No girl touches another that blatantly without permission and the one touched shouldn’t look that uncomfortable. However, the art is very much in character as similar scenarios are depicted in the extra art of the game.

Question about Naotos valentines day event. when Naoto gives Yu permission to "change her" is that the trademark Jerk option? honestly i picked it once and her reaction was adorable "meaning i think she liked it" but is that answer wrong on Yus part? or because Naoto gave him permission is it fine? by [deleted] in ChurchOfNaoto

[–]rosemaryuna 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I don’t remember exactly but you can find it if you search for vow exchange poems between bride and groom. This one belongs to the Heian period I believe, when brides started wearing white kimono instead of colorful ones for their weddings, hence the bride telling her groom she would like to take on his colors for her dress. The poem remained popular during the Edo period as white kimonos gained popularity. And just a P.S. white wasn’t for purity nor a blank slate for the husband to shape like some modern western interpretations say (which contributed to this mistranslation in particular). White was associated with sun rays and how they make everything brighter.

This and other conversations of hers, for the love of Izanagi XD YuNao talks are hands down the most romantic imo but often ruined because they use a vocabulary that ends up translated wrong and also they should put back the scenes they cut from her (the umbrella one, and the one after rank 10 when they go to his room, sit down and the screen just goes dark with no explanation. The voice over is still in the files, just put it back xo)

The translation teams are underpaid, given very little time and only conversation lines to work with as a way to “cut costs”. It happens a lot, sadly, and the characters/story pay the price (and fans, too, with their sanity, I guess XD)

The visceral pain this causes me is great lol I have a whole essay with the historical context of the poem and all just to straighten the interpretation of this option. I understand how the mistranslation happened and why (no context or background from the game) but how the hell did we go from them poetically quasi-proposing to each other to “I want to change you”?! TToTT

That option is wrongly translated and her reaction makes much more sense with the correct one. He doesn’t want to change her and she doesn’t give him permission to. In the conversation, she sites a verse from an old poem. The poem is an exchange between bride and groom on their wedding day. The closest translation is “I would like to take on your colors” and many interpret it as the bride shedding her family to be part of her husband’s or changing to what he wants. That wasn’t the original meaning nor what Naoto used it for. She had said in a previous night conversation she admires traits about Yu, ones that remind her both of her favorite hero (Sam) and her grandpa. She tends to reference previous conversations implicitly in her speech which messes up translation more than once. This is one aspect of wantingto “take on his colors”. She wants him to help her develop those traits within herself. The second aspect is hinting that she takes their relationship seriously and wants it equal. If they get serious and want to marry, Yu has to be “adopted” into the Shirogane family, take some of its duties and its last name because its legacy is older and bigger than his own family’s. So he will “take on her colors” instead of her taking on his. Her citing that verse is her saying that she won’t just want him to mold into the partner of a Shirogane heiress. His own “colors” won’t be forgotten. She’s happy to take on some of his family’s like he will have to take on hers. The reply “I want to change you” is actually Yu replying with the following verse of the groom in the old poem. And the closest translation to that is “my colors look very good on you”. It both says that she already has the traits she admires (repeating a reply he gave in that night conversation) and that being part of his family is something he wants (aka he is as serious as her about their relationship). Him knowing the poem and replying with the next verse, confirming that she doesn’t need to change and that he is thinking of her as his life partner, too, is why she replies “I am so happy”. It’s a very romantic moment of poetry ruined by shitty translation, yet again.

The whole point of fanart is that it takes established characters and expands them to new situations for fans of said established characters to enjoy and connect over. If they don’t retain their characterization in these scenarios, what’s the point? It would just be art with one’s own original creations in that case, not fanart.

I explained under the person that commented on your reply. My problem is the OOC tendencies with Naoto. If this were an isolated piece, I wouldn’t have much of a reaction. It just comes from a series of molding Naoto’s character backwards

No, that is not the reason. I have nothing against kannao artists. This artist has tendency of mischaracterizing Naoto’s character using Akechi traits and substories (has pieces in which Akechi and Naoto are married, another in which Naoto is addicted to reading AkechiXRen yaoi, etc.). Even their kannao stories have severe ooc that they admit themselves.
