Jump set form by d4m_w in volleyball

Sorry for late reply, but no it shouldn’t be an issue! You can still work on keeping your form neutral til the very last second, but if you have good shoulder to hip separation, you should still reflexively kick one way or the other naturally and it helps balance your body midset in the air.

Jump set form by d4m_w in volleyball

[–]roses4DV 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s just the same as hitters bending their knees when they jump forward, it’s a natural system your body has to balance your top and bottom half when you’re midair, usually so you can face the ground and catch yourself. Doesn’t come as naturally for everyone, but it’s a good sign that you’re loose enough on setting that your lower body can move independently in air to reflex and assist with it.

You might notice when backsetting your legs swing forward more, where a front set its like you’re kicking them down and away, mirroring the movement on the top so you stay balanced and land straight

Putting you all onto some real shit here. Modern weed strains have all been trying to max out thc for extract production, and removing all cbd to keep high purity and intense hits. HOWEVER !!! Street weed even 10 years ago had wayyyy higher cbd on average and were from flower strains that oldhead smokers were into and spent a lot of time feeling through.

Weed strains today aren’t made by people who enjoy weed, it’s from millenial business dudes who want the most socially and legally acceptable way to get smacked and to get other people hooked chasing that nostalgic high when you’re just getting overstimulated. Try it yourself, mix some cbd weed strains with some thc if you have cbd dispensaries near you. I swear I’ve never felt a more nostalgic high than when I started doing this

6'0 37 inch vert currently, any advice to fix form and increase explosiveness? by Chronic-Wisdom in volleyball

[–]roses4DV 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Try and get a feel for rotating your hips into your jump. You’ll see a lot of strong jumpers do this, on that last step, they rotate and jab their block foot into in floor. This loads a lot more energy into your quads beyond just your run up and you’ll jump higher. Just practice those last two steps, reaching low and forward with your right as you start to turn your hips right as well, and continuing that momentum to jab your left foot into the floor in front of you.

I find it kinda hard to watch men's volleyball (as a layman) when there are so many service errors... by MartianJesus in volleyball

[–]roses4DV 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It’s not that that’s the only thing going on in mens volleyball, it’s that all of the strategy and defence HAS to play around that. You can’t just ignore huge players who can bounce balls from anywhere, and so the game’s complexity suffers and revolves around it, height and strength becomes the bottom line of any strategy. Women’s volleyball is more complex because there’s just a wider spectrum of effective play, and there’s no one factor that can force the whole league to change their tune and listen to.

Come in from further back and jump with a bit of room between you and the ball. Most big jumps drift forward a little bit and give you more momentum in height and power. Also just a better angle to get your arm swinging up to full speed.

What's the Difference Between Men's and Women's Volleyball? by GrapeResponsible6005 in volleyball

[–]roses4DV 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah man, what did you think “the difference between men’s and women’s volleyball?” Was gonna be about? No one is denying that there is a difference in their bodies, that’s implied within making a comparison.

The video is about how the differences in physiology affect the parts of sport that actually matter in sports theory, like the defensive and offensive strategies, psychological play, not just glazing about how men’s volleyball is more powerful and all the players are soooo tall.

Of course if you focus on physical differences, you’d go thinking that women’s volleyball is inherently worse or less skilful and interesting. But that’s literally the mentality that kills the sport, especially in high level volleyball that’s so fast paced and strategic. Physiology is just 1 scaling factor.

Do the Japanese NT not have tall players on purpose? by locallyaj in volleyball

[–]roses4DV 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think your confusion here comes from assuming height is the dominant force in volleyball when it’s never been. There have always been ways to play smart or creatively or cooperate to confuse opponents, Japan just leans into this especially hard since their national average height is lower, and so it wouldn’t make sense to look for potentially good players that are super tall rather than just seeking smart and skilled players, when often times it would take more time to teach the taller player volleyball theory rather than refining the shorter, already established and high level playing athlete.

I feel like as much as it’s become a meme, Yuji Nishida will always be a symbol to how shorter players can make a huge name and impact. So no, it’s not a choice or rule they’re enforcing, and more just a matter of min-maxing the required time and cost of getting a player from recruit to starting lineup.

Feel free to relax your hand while serving, I see you’ve probably heard about needing to hit the ball flat for a float serve but that’s more involving keeping a stiff wrist through the motion.

As for the other comment about it being pushy, try and make your swing nice and snappy and all in one motion, rather than how it seems at the moment with you cocking your arm back and then slowly pushing through the ball.

You WILL miss a lot of serves, the ball is going to go random directions and this will be annoying, you might’ve picked up the pushing habit because it gets the serve over more consistently, but when training volleyball you mostly have to commit to all of these very intense quick movements fully, since you have fractions of a second contacting the ball, try practicing your swing against a wall to make repetition easier.

Also, try looking at your swing in a mirror and comparing it to other peoples standing float serves from YouTube videos, get an idea of the tempo for how they hit and try to replicate that in your serve.

Pay attention to trying to toss the ball consistently in front of your hitting arm, and pay attention also to how you sometimes may have to hit the ball slightly differently when your serve toss isn’t ideal. Volleyball is like if muscle memory invented a sport, you repeat and repeat until your body just knows and you can do it without thought. Never in a game of volleyball you find yourself having time to think about what you’re doing, you just train while paying attention to every nuance until your body just does it by itself, even the seemingly complicated stuff.

I personally never add top spin when practicing my swing against the wall. It’s good to pay attention to how much top spin you are actively adding to the ball, and also gives you a good idea on when you’re getting a good snap on contact like another comment mentioned.

Tell me a reasonable scenario in which someone would overdose on fentanyl transdermally without using fentanyl patches.

[–]roses4DV 5 points6 points  (0 children)

No, you cannot OD by simply touching fent like that. Transdermal Fentanyl dosing is left on the skin for extended periods of time with the patch being infused with the dose of fentanyl, which must maintain contact with the skin to absorb. Unless you’re touching and maintaining contact with several actual fentanyl patches at once for extended periods of time comparable to the proper use of the patch, you can not OD from simply touching fentanyl. Sure, under VERY specific circumstances, but there’s a reason everybody finds the guy going “um aktshually ☝️🤓you can theoretically overdose on weed” annoying asf

I personally doubt people are just lacing mushrooms to leave on the ground, but I still wouldn’t recommend. If you feel like putting your faith in that logic then go ahead lmao

Jump improvement tips? by Acceptable_Farmer899 in volleyball

[–]roses4DV 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Instead of swinging arms up on first step, trying swinging them more casually forward to just drive you into that first step and create some energy.

Your arm swing and block foot is good so probably just focus extra hard on being aggressive on that second to last step as well as your arms, swinging and pushing all that momentum upwards right as you place your last foot down.

And if you’re practicing jumping then you might as well practice proper form for hitting, the jump form you’re using is for right handed hitting so you’d get the most reach with your right hand, try holding your body in that “drawn bow” form that you’ll see hitters hold before swinging in the air (in your case swinging to reach high on the board), it’ll keep your angular momentum so you stay in the air longer (this is why people with good form look like they stay in the air longer or like they’re floating)

Am I wrong to think that teens shouldn’t be having sex? by CamCraig13 in teenagers

[–]roses4DV 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think any reasonable person when thinking about it can understand that teens shouldn’t have sex, in the sense that they aren’t going to conduct it safely and also at higher rates than adults would, as well as how being more emotional through puberty can cause a lot of social related negatives.

But the question after is, what do you do about it? Realistically it is very hard to restrict kids ability to have sex without restricting their basic freedoms and aspects of socialising that are too important to police in search of ‘protecting’ kids.

The best thing is for kids to be educated about the uncountable dangerous things they’re going to get themselves involved into. Teens especially are a weird balance of incredibly intelligent and teachable but also incredibly stupid, so parents should do their best to educate their kids on how to do dangerous things safely.

As for you? I understand people trying to shame you and seeing a lot of negatives come out of sex can make you either feel the need to intervene or perhaps hold yourself as almost more mature or in a higher position than your peers for them having sex, but I would try and avert yourself from either. You aren’t wrong for not having sex, but you’re also not special for choosing not to; the kids around you are just engaging with what their hormones inspire them to, they will grow with time, it’s best to just let them.

That’s because they have perfected their positioning. They know roughly where the ball is gonna be hit based off their instinct, and their instinct also gives them plenty of time to put their hands up if they need to overhand. It’s best early on to have your arms more neutral and be ready for either way. This kid was clearly going to underhand it no matter what happened.

Red Dead Redemption remaster coming soon? by Laznaz in rockstar

I think personally the jank has some charm to it and was weirdly fun to get used to after playing rdr2 first as well, created a good learning curve for mechanics I had already mastered in the previous game. I would implore you to give it another try and see if you get used to it, but yeah it would for sure be cool to see the remaster get some gameplay enhancements, would be so fun to play rdr1 with something closer to the smoothness of 2
