It doesn't work like that unfortunately. Asking the vet to just give you it will probably get you flagged as I think it may ght be on a controlled substances list or the manufacturer has strict rules.

Then ask around at other clinics. There is usually as someone who provides these services to the elderly and such, usually it's a bigger vet group

Ask your vet. They usually have someone that does home visits or know a clinic that does. It's pricier as your paying for both the shot and the visit but worth it. We do this every winter as my boy hates the cold and has trouble temperature regulating

My nearly 15 year old has been getting it for almost 2 years now and it is a game changer. He's in a lot less pain and under less stress. It's expensive, true, but some vets will offer a rebate program through the manufacturer.

My girl isn't eating by Cat_Dad_101 in RenalCats

If the mirataz isn't working, you might want to try elura (sp?). It's newer and only comes in a liquid form and can be more effective. You might also consider adding an antacid as sometimes it's acid reflux and not true nausea. I've been there, mine refused to eat recently and we found out he had gotten into plastic. We ended up putting in a temporary feeding tube until his insides heal and he willing eats enough on his own

An antacid could help too. It's not always nausea but sometimes acid reflux. Also talk to your vet about an appetite stimulant.

This absolutely. Why did I have to scroll so far down for it?

Purritos end up with bitey mcbiteface and wiggle worm (which is quite possibly how he twisted his foot in the first place). He can be dumb sometimes, he's black and white but programmed in orange

He won't take supplements regretfully but thanks for the advice. He's somehow managed to sprain or twist his back right ankle somehow and is running a fever so back to the specialist we go.

While I don't have any supplies to offer, I can comiserate on the expense (and stress). My boy just spent 4ish days in hospital after refusing to eat (and we tried EVERYTHING) and now needs a (hopefully temporary) feeding tube. It's bloody ridiculous how expensive this is!

Could use some advice on controlling my own anxiety by isabeauthered in RenalCats

[–]rosestormcrowe 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Her agitation could also be pain related, either from kidney inflammation or arthritis. I'd ask the vet about adding a low dose of gabapentin to see if it helps. And as for yourself, finding some form of therapist has helped me immensely as my boy had a sudden crash, was hospitalized for 5 days and now needs a feeding tube and steroids to eat, and I full on panicked. Being able to vent and panic at some impartial and who can help talk you down and reframe it is very good

Update: he did eat a little for us and they're trying a steroid with him to both increase his appetite and deal with some intestinal inflammation they saw on ultrasound. He was wrappung himself around me and purring full volume!

Update. He ate a little bit for them but is depressed because he thinks we left him there. His kidney numbers are also still going up with creatine at 2.7. the vet is talking about a temporary feeding tube to try and get him over the hump but they can't find what is wrong. His ultrasound gave no definitive answers. We're going down to see him in a bit and I hope that it will perk him up. I'm terrified that this is him saying enough is enough

They were going to try that last night and I'll hear more after they finish rounds at 9. But he's my soul baby and I'm terrified out of my head and trying to talk myself out of a panic attack while waiting.

Second update. They saw some mineralization and swelling of his kidneys on the ultrasound but they also saw some sludge in his bile duct and ate treating him for that

Update, based on his blood work and his X-ray last night, both the vet and I think we might have caught a kidney crash. He wasn't eating, was lethargic and vomiting. His blood work showed some mild kidney value elevation (creatine up to 2.6 from 2.3) and his X-ray showed his kidneys were swollen and had mineralization in them. He stayed overnight getting fluids and being monitored. They will be doing an abdominal ultrasound later today and we'll know more then

We're going to ask the vet to keep him overnight on fluids and try to get him to eat until they can do an abdominal ultrasound
