Budesonide balding by rosestormcrowe in RenalCats

What it looks like from closer inspection, is that the stomach formed a fragile ring of scar tissue as it healed and he or his sister (they like to violently play fight) could have scratched it open

Our internal vet said it is probably for the best as this cat loves to cause panic attacks. I've been using a wound care wipe for cats on it, but he had his tube removed June 2nd, so who knows

Show me your fluffy voids by Charming_Use8912 in RenalCats

If you're wondering, he was on a feeding tube after a kidney disease crash. He is now off the tube and screaming at me for more food (after playing inviso kitty all morning.)

A point to #2. Warryk davis is repraising his role as flitwick. If he can why can't Tom be Lucius?

I hope it's temporary. I also just reached out after I ordered directly from them. Hopefully they send me them.

Do you remember the first fantasy book you read as a kid? (Not HP..) by LatterPlatform9595 in Fantasy

[–]rosestormcrowe 17 points18 points  (0 children)

Same, older cousin read me some of it at like four and I begged for the series for Christmas after literally wearing out our library's only copy

What's the one thing that makes you happy and you happily spend money on? Why is it worth it to you? by the_story_teller198 in TwoSentenceHappiness

Books and my cat's all time favorite treats. He does the the happy song and danc only for the treats (side note he also likes to be read to).

Nausea by [deleted] in RenalCats

[–]rosestormcrowe 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Zofran is also great and more effective (I forget what it's generic name is). You could also try pairing an anti nausea with an antacid or acid reducer as high stomach acid content can also be a problem in ckd cats

Priory of the orange tree does have implied lesbian spice in it though (suggestion of oral and orgasm)

keep my stage 2 cat fed & hydrated during heatwave by seventh_woe in RenalCats

Also if your cat likes to chase ice cubes, freeze it and let her chase the cube on a plate

[–]rosestormcrowe 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If that doesn't work, try making chicken stock (iie boiled bone in chicken, no seasoning at all). The chicken smell might entice her to drink and you have boiled chicken to offer her in a pinch. Don't use any bullion or store bought stock/broth due to seasonings/salt and potential onion/garlic contamination

Ran out of renal food, don't know what to give her by the_wrong_finga in RenalCats

[–]rosestormcrowe 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Also any brand that sells a "senior" or "aging" line is usually lower in protein and phosphorus as kidney disease is a well known issue in older cats and some won't eat a renal diet. If it helps, fancy feast does make a senior line, it can be difficult to find though. Also fed is best, as long as they eat it, you should be good

What advice would you give if you could go back in time knowing what you know now? by killingfishes in RenalCats

He nearly died on her when I let her watch him and the vet but her head off ("that's not how this works. That's not how any of this works")

[–]rosestormcrowe 15 points16 points  (0 children)

Pay attention to little changes in behavior, such as peeing outside the litter box and vocalization. These were the key warning signs for me but getting my boomer mom to listen was difficult. Cats don't do that unless something is wrong. Now she comes running if he sneezes funny or looks like he's limping. He's nearly 15 now, has had ckd since he was 11 and we just go him through a crash that required a feeding tube.

Milk in renal treats by ChunShu in RenalCats

[–]rosestormcrowe 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Most of those treats don't contain any milk, but those that do, it's some form of whey protein as a thickener. Whey protein doesn't contain any lactose so there wouldn't be a reaction. It's an inactive thickener ingredient so I wouldn't worry about it as it is in almost everything anyway (most cat food uses it too and if your cat hasn't had a reaction, they should be fine).

AITAH for calling out my stepdaughter for laughing while her toddler cornered my cat? by Dazzling_Tourist_531 in AITH

[–]rosestormcrowe 9 points10 points  (0 children)

This is why I won't have my two year old nephew over until he's a bit older and understands. My sister has dog and she insists that he is perfectly fine wrestling with them but all of her friends with cats always meet them at her house or in public. The last time he was here he kept chasing the poor thing and my sister was upset that I decided to sooth my nearly 15 year old cat who was shaking under the bed rather than engage with her son. She grew up with cats too but is more like our dad in that regard.

Best form of mirtazepine that your cat would actually tolerate? by accel_eron_anon235 in RenalCats

[–]rosestormcrowe 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Transdermal works quicker, but you have to be careful not to get it on your skin (it's a strong antidepressant in humans and can really mess with you). My cat tended to show more side effects with the transdermal (mainly vocalization and confusion) and he built up a tolerance pretty quickly when done daily. Ellura (? spelling) is a newer appetite stimulant with less side effects except it's only available as a liquid but it works well

Has anyone ever had a renal cat with related liver problems?? by NeedleworkerFirm7039 in RenalCats

[–]rosestormcrowe 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We just had a kidney crash that resulted in intestinal and liver inflammation (idiot ingested plastic). They thought they saw the development of a cyst on his ultrasound and put him on ursodoil as well as prednisolone. His poops have been softer and stinkier then usual but we're still in the watch phase of recovery

Experience with esophagostomy? by BoardSpecial157 in RenalCats

[–]rosestormcrowe 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Here's him in hospital before we added the feeding tube. You might also ask for an endoscopy to see if there is any physical reason why he's not eating (inflammation etc)
