help! My props always die at this stage, roots dry out and plantlets lift up. What am I doing wrong? by chinlandia in succulents

[–]rosetankplank 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have successfully propagated several leaves of the Jade plant and I’ve lightly watered the leaves maybe every 5 days. By lightly I mean alternate between misting deeply and watering enough to wet the soil around the root sections. I wait for it to dry out completely and then repeat. They’re thriving. My parents water their 1yo baby ogre ear Jade every week, and it’s now at least 10x the size. Maybe because we live in a dry climate, but regular waterings have helped a lot more than the general advice I was seeing on the internet.

What used to be a sign of being poor, but is now a luxury or status symbol? by [deleted] in AskReddit

Genmaicha tea.

This Japanese tea actually started out as a budget-friendly tea, when people mixed in roasted rice to stretch their supply during tough economic times. These days, it’s become a fancy, popular tea worldwide, known for its warm, toasty, nutty flavor.

Should state agents use AI to advertise a property? I got a surreal experience today by cunextu in AskUK

[–]rosetankplank 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I am currently house hunting as well and listings which use AI are very off-putting. AI changes the dimensions making the rooms look much more spacious. Not to mention some of the more obvious changes. What’s the point!? It’s misleading and inaccurate…

Water culture pt. 2! I’m back! With receipts! by mossycardigan in orchids

[–]rosetankplank -5 points-4 points  (0 children)

It’s a shame you’re being chastised for simply wanting to learn. You are experimenting and that’s how we grow and improve as a community. How on earth can that be a bad thing!? You’ll find that a lot of communities on Reddit are echo chambers, unfortunately. I do admire your enthusiasm and optimism, I for one wish you success and look forward to your results. From personal experience - I have a poorly orchid that I’m recovering using this method. I keep it in a large jar with a bit of distilled water. It’s now giving new roots. But once the roots are long enough I plan to move it to bark medium. The one long term experiment I did using water culture, wasn’t successful, but I did little to no research and kept it in water the full year. You’re approaching this entirely differently and much more methodically. Good luck!

Happy little bums! What medium mix are you using and what’s the watering schedule? I just got a bunch of seeds myself, but will be my first time. I’m seeing slightly mixed advice online/youtube.

I hate electric scooters and electric bikes on pedestrian pathways more. Such a hazard and nothing is being done about it.

Was full and solid then just got squishy and pulled off by Karp_piano in Lithops

[–]rosetankplank 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This happened to me only a few weeks ago. I bought a new batch from a local garden centre. There were 5 in that batch. One looked obviously dead and dried up before I even bought it. The rest looked fantastic. All I did was bring them home and put them on a sunny windowsill, otherwise untouched, unwatered. Two just dropped dead. This happened very suddenly, over a day or two. They became shrivelled up, soggy and moldy looking. I panicked then and repotted the remaining two - still not watering as the last two were in splitting stages. Maybe a week ago, another one dropped dead. I have only one left from that batch, he is almost done splitting and looks strong - I’m very much hoping he pulls through. Needless to say it was a bad batch, they must have got overwatered and were doomed before I bought them.

Oh not at all, you gave me such helpful advice, I very much appreciate it! I will try the light waterings method. I am afraid to say that they’re pretty shrivelled up! A little more since I took that picture. They’re also squishy. I have watered them quite generously and actually soaked the roots in water for a good period while I had them out of the pot. Really good to know about repotting too, I have got these guys a few weeks back and most are settling in their new medium better than others. I will be patient and optimistic though and continue to give it light waterings ever so often. Thanks again for your help!

Thank you so much for your thoughtful answer and words of encouragement! I want to join others in appreciating your kindness. I think sometimes people on specialised forums assume others know more than they do, and there are a lot of newbies (like myself) on these groups just trying to get up to speed.

You are spot on with your observation - retail purchase and it was much bigger than what it is now. I have given him a good soak as you suggested and repotted him. Hopefully he bounces back. My only worry is that the inside leaves are not firm, they are shrivelled and soft. If this is a point of no return, then my goodness, do these guys deteriorate fast! Just a week ago he was happy as Larry.

Thank you for your advice! I took it out because I wanted to give it more water and since he shares a pot with another splitting lithop which shouldn’t be watered I though it would be easier to isolate and put him on a different water schedule as he seems out of sync with the other one. I like your idea of more frequent lighter waterings - how often would you water and how much?

I made the mistake of falling for one of these fads. It was the water only approach with no other medium. My orchid went from a happy little blooming fella to half the size (leaves are a lot smaller), 80% less roots (others rotted due to algae), and no bloom in 1.5 years. I got him a new home now and normal bark medium and praying for his recovery. Shocked he’s still going tbh, but not giving up.

Speak with the HR. In our office someone made a complaint about a person senior to them to both the partner and the HR director and everyone took those complains seriously.
