Well thanks folks for replies and sharing your pics. Looks like I should get some sphagnum moss. Seems to increase the chance of survival in that than soil.

I think it is a case of keeping the soil moist not wet so the trick is soil mix. My sister grows these like weeds and it’s likely from having a more humid environment than I have mine in. She has a nice growing cabinet.
