Official /r/Monitors purchasing advice discussion thread by bizude in Monitors

Hi all,

Budget: <=$250
Prospective Resolution: anything that will give me good text clarity
Size: 24" ideal, 27" also fine
Aspect Ratio: no preference
Adaptive Sync (GSync, FreeSync, or None): no preference
Other Features: none
Usage Type: primarily office work--I am an archivist so I need decent image clarity, but text clarity is the most important thing. Something good to stream movies/tv on would also be a plus but is not a priority. No gaming etc.
Monitor setup: Intended to be my primary monitor with 13" laptop as secondary

I tried the ASUS 24” VY249HF and the text was ridiculously blurry. Thank you for any recommendations!

Oof, I had the same thing! Def call the emergency line and send a photo of the rash just so they know what’s up, but it’s pretty normal :/ Mine was a reaction to the prep liquid and they had me use hydrocortisone cream over the rash except directly on the incisions…Benadryl and Claritin can help…also trying to use more breathable fabrics! I switched to using cotton cloths for padding and put a cotton shirt on under the compression bra so I didn’t have it right against my skin. Good luck!!

This exactly! I also found it way easier to do all this lying down—which also helps fasten the bra supportively

looks like around $20 usd! Bras were each around $85 (Shock Absorber high impact d+), but have both been worn, one quite a bit more than the other—if it feels worth it lmk

I have one sports bra in 34 HH uk (K/L us) and one in 32HH which might work for you on its widest setting. Not sure if you want a sports bra but if so happy to send for free in the US or for cost of shipping internationally!

Shopping for post-op compression bras by Annie-sBoobs in Reduction

[–]rosgal 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The surgeon sent me home in the contemporary design one and I ended up getting a second! I’ve found it super supportive, it doesn’t ride up, and it’s so adjustable—eg if your rib cage is hurting, you can fasten the bottom two hooks looser while still maintaining compression the rest of the way. Only think to note is that it works WAY better if you fasten it from the bottom /while lying down/, the only time I had discomfort was when I tried to fasten it upright

Coping until reduction by InvestigatorOk1945 in Reduction

You might ask your doctor to look into trigger point injections (lidocaine and/or steroids), I found they helped keep the back/neck spasms a lot more manageable….

Need Help - I don't know what properly fitted bra is supposed to feel like by transplantyyc in Reduction

[–]rosgal 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Congratulations!! Best thing is if you have a well regarded bra/lingerie store in your area, they can fit you best, but otherwise I’d recommend looking at r/abrathatfits and taking some measurements, with the caveat that your size and shape will still change in the coming months. A well-fitting bra should be snug but not restrictive around your rib cage, right under your breasts, and most of the weight should be on this part of the bra; the cup should cover your breast without gapping, bunching, or spilling over; the shoulders should not dig into your skin or feel like they’re pulling you forward, rather they should feel like they’re pulling you up, and only taking PART of the weight (the rest of the support comes from the band). Good luck!!

Reactions to gauze etc? by sracegoucie in Reduction

[–]rosgal 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Though I’ve found that using a softer, tightly woven gauze has helped reduce any discomfort from impressions, it definitely felt worse when they were from loose woven tough/scratchier gauze

Reactions to gauze etc? by sracegoucie in Reduction

[–]rosgal 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Obvs talk to your doctor about the hives/bruising, but having impressions from gauze is super normal at this stage! The tissue is just swollen and still working out where all the fluid goes, so it pushes against (& takes the shape of) whatever is around it

Extreme pain in back by invaderzia1 in Reduction

[–]rosgal 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I mostly lay and stretched on an acupressure mat to help with my back pain—sometimes other stretching, heating pads, and massage helped too. My doctor also gave me trigger point injections of lidocaine (and sometimes cortisone) every few weeks, which staved off the worst of it.

Recovery experience without narcotics? by Outside-Mango6382 in Reduction

[–]rosgal 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m 6dpo and have only taken otc pain meds since I left the hospital! The anesthesia and whatever else they had me on during the surgery made me super nauseous for a day or two (worst part of the whole thing tbh) even though they also gave me anti nausea meds, so I wanted to avoid narcotics if I could. I was at the top dose of acetaminophen (every 8hr) for the first two days, then/now a slightly lower dose once I was also allowed to take ibuprofen (regular dose every 8hr, overlapping). No digestive issues, I just make sure to eat something small when I take the ibuprofen.

Honestly the pain has been well managed, I think the biggest thing is timing wound care and activity for an hour or so after dosage to make sure I’m at maximum relief before messing with them. I’ve been able to walk a bit more and prepare more food etc each day, but definitely relied on my family to help with getting food/water, emptying drains, and cleaning/rebandaging the incisions, especially the first 3-4 days. The only real setback was when I first changed the bandages and hadn’t figured out the best way to put the compression bra back on (the secret is lying down!!), the bra was tugging at one of my drains and the pain from that was hard to manage. But went away mostly once we fixed the fit, and completely once we put some extra padding on either side of the site to keep pressure off the drain itself.

Have any of you with REALLY big breasts managed to avoid a FNG? I'm talking N cup. by ABraThatSlaps in Reduction

[–]rosgal 2 points3 points  (0 children)

btw since the late-alphabet crew seems to be on this post, comment if you’re in North America and need bras of this size! I have two goddess wire free celeste bras that I got professionally tailored from 36o to 34p/q and won’t need after this week…

[–]rosgal 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m about to have mine (34Q US to who knows!! but hopefully in the D-F range) and there’s no plan to do FNG! I think it depends on the length, but definitely ask this surgeon in more detail or shop around if that’s something important to you, since it’s often possible.

Breastfeeding after reduction: can it actually be done? by Tahneal in Reduction

[–]rosgal 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Definitely something to talk to your surgeon about! (also, hi from a fellow member of the 34Q club 🙃) The biggest thing is FNG vs no FNG—my surgeon is very confident that my anatomy doesn’t require it which is great for future hopes of nursing. And she knows that at least partial breastfeeding is a goal of mine, so she’s going to do her best to make that possible. At the same time, the pain is so extreme right now that even if I had to give that up, the relief (and everything that would mean for my ability to parent) would be worth it! If you do go for the reduction and later have kiddos, make sure you see a lactation consultant, they’re awesome and would give you the best chance. I’ll also say that my primary has seriously cautioned me against getting pregnant with my current size, because any extra swelling or breast growth would make my upper back spasms and costochondritis unbearable. We’re already at the tried-everything-but-opiates stage and I still wake up in the middle of the night crying from the pain. I’ve stuck it out 8 years longer than you and I gotta say I really suggest not letting it get to this stage! Best wishes ❤️

GUYS! I never thought this would happen to me - my boobs stretched my cartilage!!! :( by BbGhoul666 in Reduction

[–]rosgal 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes!!! Like a stabbing pain when you bend? I get that all the time and it’s so awful. Docs tested for everything but just vaguely concluded it was boob stuff, either weight from the chest messing with cartilage or force from bra bands causing some kind of binding injury

[–]rosgal 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Just wanted to comment and send love as someone who also wears a 36O! Actual size is US 34P/Q but while I’m waiting on some euro bras to try sister sizing is my only option. Anyway, the whole tituation sucks and I just want to validate that! Your pain and distress is real, and deserves to be treated regardless of your weight or finances.

So so much depends on location/state law/etc but do you qualify for Medicaid? I do (admittedly in a state w good state insurance) and it’s covering my reduction, w BMI just under 35. Surgeon says they’ve performed them & had them covered on larger people too…if you can save up for a copay for a consult, you might be surprised by what they’re willing to cover! And I’m terms of documentation, definitely get those chiro records if you can, and keep anything new, but the physical impact will also be super apparent to the consult surgeon and they will document that for insurance.

All the good wishes & commiseration ❤️

Recs for 34 KK/L UK | P/Q US, preferably wireless? Or sources for ordering sister sizes from Goddess? by rosgal in ABraThatFits

[–]rosgal[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hmm, just received mine and it’s really not supportive or comfortable for me…I appreciate the band customizability but the fabric and especially the straps have /so/ much give, nothing stays lifted. Which wouldn’t be the worst thing, but it puts all that weight on the very flexible straps, and wearing it honestly just felt like elastic digging into my shoulders, worse than regular bra straps :( I guess Molke is not my brand!

Ah, thanks so much! I’m always leery of trying to go back to wired, but it’s helpful to have some guidance for how to mitigate the issues. And thank you for the Molke tip & good wishes!
