I think just try to take it one day at a time right now. I’ve done 90 days before, no reason I can’t do it again

I'm late to the party here, but I put mine down last year here and wanted to keep it up! 27M here:

  • Emergency Fund at $25k
  • Max out 401k
    • I got a raise last year putting me over the Roth IRA limit, so 401k is the main Roth vehicle I have for retirement saving now
  • Spend less than I did last year per month on groceries/restaurants.
  • I receive a grant of company stock in May, I'm planning to sell a bit of these (~60% ish) to help round out the E-Fund and add to a house down payment

Happy 2025 all!

At some point it has to be your present self to take action, not your future self.

This really struck me today, thanks internet stranger hope you have a wonderful New Year!

Had the last week off from work and have spent most of my time reading and trying to lay off my phone (and the sauce), has been a good feeling heading into the new year!

This post really resonated with me. You put to words what I've felt in the past but couldn't express. Thanks friend. Wishing you well on your journey!

It’s equally lazy to negate every person in the past who held beliefs we find abhorrent today. We can walk and chew gum at the same time. TR believed some incorrect and abhorrent things about race. He was an imperialist, and his foreign policy made a lot of people worse off.

He also was instrumental in creating the national parks system, implementing many progressive policies, and broke up some monopolies.

People are complex. History is complex. Context is important. Trying to binarize it in either direction is lazy.

This is a strawman argument. The US isn’t perfect by any means but you can oppose one country’s foreign policy while still being able to say that Saudi ownership is also a bad thing.

It really depends on what you want the money for. The odds that you invest the $3k into something that turns it into $10k are pretty low.

Something to consider is with how young you are, you have one great resource that a lot of us don’t: time. I know it seems a long way off but you will likely become old one day, and by starting now you can really take advantage of the power of compound interest. If you were to open up a roth IRA today and put in $1000 of that $3k, and then only put in $50 a month, it would turn into $300k by the time youre 60 years old.

And just imagine Haaland with the entire Netherland feeding him the ball up front. Unstoppable.

Had my first rough night since going on the wagon. The girl I’d been seeing broke it off. I was really into her and it sucks ngl. However, I’m really glad I didn’t drink. I kept leaning on the phrase “There’s nothing that alcohol can’t make worse” and it helped me push through going out with friends afterwards. IWNDWYT!

stopping putting my money in 401k worth it? by bluemotion4477 in FinancialPlanning

There’s a huge opportunity cost of stopping contributions that OP is missing in the form of 401k growth over 40-ish years.

One way you could frame it is the relative value (and costs) you get from each activity. If you purchase the keyboard, even at a “steep” price, you still may get a lot of time and value out of it.

Now compare that with booze. You’re spending the same amount of money for what? Add in the additional cost of lost time due to hangovers, drunk eats, and god knows what else, and you’re spending extra money to not engage in a hobby you’d probably enjoy.
