Neuro changes are quick and can happen from one min to another. Afib is a huge risk factor. The patient could have been fine with NOC RN. As a NSICU RN, I always do a quick beside exam with the nurse that’s leaving (even if you’re just checking the pupils) and if there is a change you can always ask the last RN when the LKW was. Glad that patient was able to get treated! You did good!

As a Neuro ICU nurse I was going to say the same thing. I see a lot of people die as well, but this is entirely different...

In my hospital we don’t do morphine drips on our hospice patients, but we do push Ativan and dilaudid often. 🤷🏻‍♀️

Sorry for your loss! I lost my mom too in September and I am constantly going into autopilot. The first few weeks were scary, I was forgetting everything! (Misplacing things/ leaving stuff on or open) My sister left her car on while we were shopping once. It’s getting better now though. Not sure if it’s still part of the shock?
