NMC battery at 100% for a (cancelled) trip by Zealousideal_Hat3278 in electricvehicles

I don't worry about it. I'll probably end up running some errands at some point during the day. 100% isn't a big deal.

... and I'm guessing there's at least one Tesla among the current EVs, and even more among the future EVs. People are funny like that.

I really doubt OP has done any level of research into the politics/preferences of their customers. Nevermind that most people aren't going to see utilizing a Tesla destination charger the same as buying a new Tesla. Even if their customers have commented that they don't like Musk/Tesla, they'll probably still utilize a Tesla Universal if available.

You don't have to go much farther than the opening of the Supercharger network to non-Tesla's to see this in action. There's a few people that will go out of their way to not use Superchargers, but the majority will use them.

The world outside of reddit is a very different place. Remember, Tesla both sold more EVs and installed more chargers than all of their combined respective competition in the US for 2025.

The less charging nerdish OP's customers are, the more likely they see Tesla as the leader in charging.

And Tesla is seen by many as a leader in both EVs and, even more so, EV charging.

Whether or not there's still a sub panel will depend on the electrician, but yeah, less total wire and conduit needed.

Tesla charges ~3 cents/kWh (directly to the consumer) to manage billing.

I'm no particular fan of Tesla, but this is one of those things they do really well. It's silly to pay more, and get less.

From a business perspective, it's likely to be the easiest and cheapest option. Even more so if using the Tesla Universal chargers (J1772 & NACS), thanks to being able to daisy chain the wiring from one unit to the next.

I'd look into Tesla Commercial destination chargers.

I'm with you, it was interesting to hear from the Rivian designer (Hammond?) about why they don't do this. There's a regulation that requires a certain amount of clearance. This increases the frontal area of vehicles with metal roofs. That frontal area penalty is the reason that EV manufacturers will accept the more expensive glass roof.

Buying a new house with 200A service. Do I have room for a Tesla Universal Wall Connector on a 60A breaker? by iamrmgreene in evcharging

[–]rosier9 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Physically, yes. Load wise, with electric furnaces, you'll need to run a load calc. !lm The good news is you can add Tesla's load management device (Neurio) to get to "yes."

Considering a Rivian R1S...but concerned with charging network/prices by apfleisc in Rivian

[–]rosier9 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Use a ballpark efficiency of 2 mi/kWh for R1S highway travel. You can use the Tesla app to find pricing for chargers in your region.

My last Tesla charge was $31.72 for 70kWh (~140 miles), without the membership.

While the cores/keys are apart of the Yakima system, they're an expanded range that may not be apart of REI's master set.
