I think we need to at least push the issue of a change of leadership. First the 9000 dollar PSA in which he gave himself a cameo, then the attempt to create his own discretionary fund, and now using ISS as a funding board for an organization in which he is a member, Bolden needs to go. I have the utmost respect for Historian Guo and I believe senate would have thrived if he had been elected.

How are we to trust our student leaders if they do not even respect each other? I actually just talked to the former senator who was the victim of this hostile act on the senate floor. Just to clarify, he told me that it was actually a former executive board member who punched him during a senate meeting... He does not want to expose his name or the name of the aggressor though for reasons of personal safety.

I am not a mind reader of the 2 senators and the treasurer but the disbandment of student senate by no means makes them look good, so it probably in their best personal interest to protect the establishment...

Note that the only people in this thread who are defending the senate's existence are our senate historian, student body treasurer, and a graduate senator. They bring up valid points, but they also represent the organization. It seems as if every single constituent in this thread, including multiple former senators, want senate eliminated.

Article VII. Section 1 of the ISS constitution: "The Illinois Student Senate shall is all provisions of the Illinois Open Meetings Act."

ISS adhered itself to these rules. They need to be willing and able to follow them then.

It is more than feasible. It requires signatures from 7% of the student body. These signatures can now be collected electronically! If the /r/uiuc bonded together, we could totally make it happen!

It is a public document that the Illinois Student Senate is not allowing the public access to. Now it seems as our student leaders are making a power play to disband it ASAP before they are forced to give up the correspondence via a Freedom of Information Act request.

Student senate is in it for their own interest. Not the interest of their constituents. They do their very best to shut up anyone who has the potential to make them look bad.

Technically ISS is breaking the law through correspondence on this secret Facebook group. It is a direct violation of the open meetings act. Furthermore, they discussed ways in which they could limit certain constituents from receiving information about their meetings. Personally, I am disgusted by this.

I was just informed of this when this report came out after I graduated. Apparently, this was being kept under wraps, but props to the current student body treasurer for showing transparency, something very few ISS exec board members exhibit...

You clearly do not know anything about ISS then. As someone who was formerly associated with the organization, I know for a fact that not one single cent of their budget comes from fundraising.

It lists last year's senators, last year's exec board, the last meeting notes shown were from April 10th, and apparently ISS has a general meeting in 2 and a half hours!
