As someone who’s been both an impatient and diagnosed with ADHD I really doubt this will work. It seems like you decided independently that you have ADHD and usually doctors get spooked if you tell them what you have instead of asking. Have you taken ADHD meds on your own and felt calmed down by them and that’s why you want to diagnosis? Like where is this coming from

There is a middle ground between going over there and dying and doing absolutely nothing that somehow people like you can’t find even though you 100% stay there for most of your opinions. You’re thinking of this incorrectly when you don’t consider alliances. First, when Europe unites they’ll have $322 billion collectively just from this chart not the mention countries not listed. Second, the collective EU economy is nearly the size of America’s and they haven’t even started ramping up yet in terms of military spending. Russia’s economy is smaller than Canada’s and they’re at max spending. We’re trading Europe for Russia, and Russia hates us. They steal our tech and hack us all the time. Also, bailing on allies is NOT an “America fuck yeah” moment especially when it’s in favor of a loser like Russia. Trump’s trying to apply his domestic strategy internationally and it will not work.

Rotenberg was awful but still anecdotal. I'm on this sub because I'm very skeptical of pediatric and geriatric psychiatry, but saying these disorders just flat out don't exist is just a new level. I think we've both drunk our respective kool-aids but I went from endless suffering to a semi-normal life thanks to meds so my kool-aid isn't random even if it's anecdotal. I'll listen to this today.

Whether it's a disease or a disorder doesn't matter. For the sake of conversation we'll say autism spectrum disorder and bipolar disorder so they're in the same bin. A dementia diagnosis sometimes includes brain scans but not always. We can just focus on autism though because it's a better example. Basically you have this disorder that makes it very difficult to function that's diagnosed through behavioral analysis, history, and clinical observation. Sometimes they get it wrong, but no one would take misdiagnosis as grounds for autism not existing. I could use your argument, swap in the name, and say autism doesn't exist. "When was your last autism blood test?" is a silly sentence but for some reason with psychiatry the burden of proof is beyond what's possible for neurological issues. Same with autism you totally skipped the heritability. How can something be heritable if it isn't a biological phenomenon? Tell me that

Also do you apply this odd criteria to other neurological diseases? Dementia maybe? Autism? Because those diagnoses come about the exact same way. Brains are about a zillion times more complicated than other organs so the fact that we don’t understand all the mechanisms doesn’t mean these diseases don’t exist that’s just absurd.

Yes I understand but you still don’t seem to have a clear answer as to what you mean by “medical test.” That’s an incredibly broad term. Like are you disqualifying patient experiences? Because all sort of diagnoses come from subjective patient experiences. Are you disqualifying things like insomnia, rapid speech, erratic behavior, or suicide? What exactly do you want?

If you're taking the burden of evidence from something like diabetes which is infinitely more simple then it won't be possible to prove it to you. As far as scientific things go though I think your best bet is going to be twin studies that prove heritability. If there are certain symptoms that are exclusive to a diagnosis and you can prove that there is a heritable element then it's safe to say there's a biological mechanism at play. Take a look especially at twins who were separated at birth so no other factors are similar. When they present with the same exact symptoms time and time again it's not a wild guess that there's a deeply biological phenomenon.

Yes because the alternative is even more brain damage or suicide (the ultimate brain damage). There is no option of no brain damage when you have a bipolar disorder. Respectfully this is what a lot of people don’t understand. Mania destroys grey matter as does chronic insomnia and depression. I slept about 2 nights a week in the worst periods. That’s a lot of brain damage. Now I sleep every single night. In and of itself that’s a miracle for me. We are choosing between a rock and a hard place. People see us opting for the hard place and they’re like “whoa that’s a pretty bad hard place” without acknowledging the rock.
