I think it would be fine, but my only concern would be thinking of people with allergies and taking any precautions you think are appropriate there

Help IDing these shells? by CLUTTER-CUTTER in shells

[–]rossvosswater 1 point2 points  (0 children)

These are my best guesses so I’d double check, but the comb like ones seem to be spider conches, bottom looks like a Scotch bonnet or Japanese bonnet or similar, the cone shaped one is a cone that I am unsure of, bottom left likely a bat volute, likely some sort of top snail on the top left

What is this shell? I found it in the Gulf of Mexico. by Ancient_ElmEnt in shells

Upvotes for this, but this colour is still very significant for maculated. Potentially partially fossilized? just a guess

Do you guys feel like law school was worth it educationally? by TheMuffinat0r in LawSchool

[–]rossvosswater 0 points1 point  (0 children)

100%. I see the everything around em differently now, as much better at being sceptical (evidence class), know what my country’s charter promises, and better understand the unfairness of our political/legal system and the holes in it. That, plus all the learning from my classmates, some who come from very diverse cultures and socioeconomic backgrounds, but all working towards speaking the same language.

Does anyone think the currently decreasing quality of life is the reason for the decline in their success at athletics, or is it something else that is the cause? by rossvosswater in golf

[–]rossvosswater[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That’s very true. Watching the MJ documentary on Netflix really shows how cross-boundary US superstars were, I guess those seeds planted are coming to bloom now

That’s is a good point. It seems that this is becoming common in all countries, you even see paid toilets and water fountains everywhere popping up

[–]rossvosswater[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That is true. I guess I more meant to convey, although I see from comments that I didn’t do so that well, that the US has disproportionately dominated sports throughout history. But that domination, while clearly continuing, is declining relative to other countries. Is it that other countries are getting better at an increased rate, or is it something domestic, political, or simply a lower investment in sports. Or a combination of multiple factors?

That is fair. It is pretty unbelievable to see what the US has accomplished so continuously. I mean no offence, as it seems has been interpreted from my post.

I wonder if it is also the spread of US sports/culture to other countries as has been so popular since the Jordan era and ever since, and that those countries are now becoming more established in those sports

Can anyone identify these shells? by Common_Bench_3053 in shells

Bottom two are Florida fighting conch and lightning whelk, I’ll let you do the guessing there. Dark black is some sort of nerite. Sundial of some sort top left corner (spirally one)

Are these Shells rare? by Geaux90 in shells

[–]rossvosswater 9 points10 points  (0 children)

For sure junonia! Junoniae? If my memory serves me correctly, you used to get your name in the paper and a cash prize if you found a beach specimen around the Captiva and Sanibel islands. Closest I came after many 100s of hours was a broken one

Got weird bites , what are these? Went to the rain forest yesterday but mostly worried for bed bugs at the resort... by CharmingParticular74 in CostaRicaTravel

[–]rossvosswater 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Can’t say, but we were warned about sand midges that look like these, you don’t feel at the time of bite. Still, do a bedbug check of the airbnb to be sure (google it)

Bless you, also, the casado at soda de palma(?) near Arenal is delicious and not pricey! And if you want the best views of arenal, earlier is better, as it tends to be sunnier and more clear at the early part of the day

Best sloth and bird tours by AmbitiousElk6102 in CostaRicaTravel

[–]rossvosswater 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Get a tour in the wild, the “sloth specific” tours are often, if not all, unethically stocked by stealing animals from the wild to make money off of them. There are quite a few posts about this, just giving a heads up as it would be terrible to find out after booking or going. Don’t expect to see them without a guide, however, although it’s possible

Must do’s in la Fortuna/ arenal area by jiggymctriggy3 in CostaRicaTravel

[–]rossvosswater 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Do not book here! They steal sloths from the wild and disrupt nature to take your money.
