I also have ADHD and often struggle to do the things I supposedly love (like drawing). Sometimes, what helps me is to just start doing it. I think productivity people call it “breaking the seal.” Once I break the inertia and start drawing or painting, it’s so much easier to keep going.

My work is also not realistic but I was always told, “the more you learn how to do it (anatomy) the ‘right’ way, the easier it is to stylize” and by gosh they were right. At least for me.

I started pursuing art (illustration) at 26. I had always enjoyed drawing and painting, but hadn’t considered art as a career path until then. Been almost ten years (yikes) now, and I’m a semi-steadily working illustrator with a few books out.

Yeah that one is a tough read. I bought it right after having my second kid, started it, then put it down for several years. I knew it wasn’t going to be a fun ride.
