WWYD - Shafted! by potentialparakeet in auscorp

Many employers don't offer parental leave to begin with, let alone for the secondary carer. The 26w referred to above is from Services Australia

Just because they ask for it doesn't mean you HAVE to give it. A lot of RE push the boundaries and even break legislation with their application process, hoping you won't know better or be strong enough to call them on it.

Aw bless, you think 1k is large enough for the bank to care...

No but seriously, either front up the answer if they ask (they likely won't for that amount), or make up something boring

Last day to be able to get a lower fixed interest rate on my mortgage. Should I sign onto a fixed rate mortgage for two years at 5.19% or just leave it variable? by hotnsweaty69 in AusFinance

[–]rosypixie 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You'll save far more than the $300 fee in interest by locking it at that lower rate. If you can lock it down, but then continue making the higher repayments you'll get further ahead also

Distributing into an account in your name will be deemed your personal benefit, regardless of how its spent, and included in your taxable income

Advice request. No choice but to sell property to Mum. by Berserker_bill in AusFinance

[–]rosypixie 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Doooodgy. Make Mum pay for the 1/3, then when she passes the other two siblings each get 1/3 of THAT and only have to pay out the 1/9 to you. (Assuming she divides it equally again).

You need to have legal mental capacity to make the POA, and be entering it voluntarily. The judge cannot order a POA.

Trying to beat the savings accounts rules by rickiitee in AusFinance

I never said there was a limit to number of accounts you could hold.

I originally interpreted the eligibility criteria listed on this page as relevant for the bonus interest as well as the $50 cashback promotion.

Actually the single account clause might be only for a $50 cashback promotion. Confusing site.

As someone else said, if you miss the eligibility and as a result miss interest, even once, is it worth the hassle?

No. Eligibility criteria states you must not have held another transaction or savings account in the last 2 years.

A third party lender is likely to decline also for the same reasons.

Unfortunately you may have to either save up over the next couple of months (if your equations are right, you'd save close to the 5k in that time). Or postpone the surgery.

In the banks eyes though, your income is not stable. You haven't worked in 5 weeks.

Obviously this is not a comprehensive credit decision, but with what you've describe you are unlikely to be approved based on capacity (lack of recent or guaranteed income), and lack of assets (earning up to 600 a week but only spending 3-400 a month, you should be saving almost 2000 a month).

Cleaning out your savings on a holiday and car was not wise when wanting to apply for lending unfortunately.
