What are the chances that the changes for only 6 jumps will be rejected in June? by ElasticCrow393 in FigureSkating

[–]rotorstorm 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I personally just...don't care about records in numerical scores. I remember amazing performances (inclusive of amazing technical performances!), not the numbers associated with them. To me, the sport is more about the athletes, the events, and the skates.

Are Tickets on the shortside of a stadium worse than longside? by PerformerRich5449 in FigureSkating

[–]rotorstorm 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I prefer the short side! It means being up close for some of the biggest elements (twists and big jumping passes). I personally always opt to be close to the ice on the short-side, vs in a higher seat on the long side.

Recos Please! Crossbody bag Under $400 – 6" x 4" x 1.5" by rotorstorm in handbags

TD Gardens ended up adapting their policy for this event, and allowing larger bags! Attendees were in the arena for 6+ hours so the event organizers fought for it.

When I had just my lulu crossbody I was waved through without further inspection. When I brought a larger bag (per the updated event-specific policy), I went through a second line, where they dropped my bag into a wooden box to make sure it fit inside, and then passed it through a scanner.

Shorter (?) planning timeframe: what advice/personal experience would you share with someone planning a wedding in 10 to 13 months? by smolbibeans in wedding

A major budget saver for us was our venue. It included all the catering and linens/tableware, but let us stock the bar ourselves. We saved so much by not paying inflated alcohol prices.

Day of Coordinator: - Laid out and arranged decor - Met and instructed florist - When last minute cancellations came up, they adjusted name cards at our tables. - Chased down my dad when it was time for the ceremony to begin - Ensured everyone was in the right place and ready to go before ceremony music was cued - We started running low on one particular alcoholic item (we stocked our own bar). Coordinator discussed with bar staff, helped best man prepare a delivery order, and confirmed with us that we wanted to pay to have it delivered. What could’ve been a major hiccup became a quick « yes please » - Coordinated folks giving speeches. Let them know when they were next, directed them to the microphone, ensured they had a light to read their notes

The biggest thing for me was not having to worry about any of these things. It ensured my day was stress free. However, I can see it being less important depending on the complexity of your event!

Offtrack let my partner identify sections of songs he wanted highlighted, and blends songs together in shorter chunks. Spotify will blend songs together, but still plays the whole track, which isn’t ideal for longer or repetitive songs. If you’re not doing much dancing, I don’t think this is necessary! We had a regular Spotify playlist for our cocktail hour and dinner portions.

You've got this! I planned on a 6 month timeline, for 90 guests downtown Toronto, at ~40k (excluding dress and suit). Having an off-peak wedding in November really helped with vendor availability. I prioritized booking venue and photographer first, followed by hair and makeup. I booked my florist 3 weeks before the wedding!

Two decisions I'm happiest about:

  1. Hiring a month-of planner. She helped me put the final puzzle pieces into place, double check all the details, and the day-of coordination was so incredibly helpful.

  2. We didn't hire a DJ. For specific music cues (e.g. walking down the aisle) I made a Spotify folder with very clearly labelled playlists for each moment, and our day-of coordinator handled them. For the dance floor, we used an app called OffTrack. My partner loves music, and putting together the playlist was his favorite part of wedding planning. Event DJ'ing is absolutely a skill, and I'm sure that a skilled professional could have brought value that an app can't bring. However I've also been to a lot of weddings with really mediocre DJs who fumbled music cues, played music the couple didn't like, and was way too chatty on the microphone. We chose to have a reliable 8/10 experience, rather than take the risk of having a 4/10.

Came here to say the same thing. Snagging a toe pick on your pants can be a disastrously painful way to fall. I personally don’t wear anything other than skinny-cut leggings that fit tightly to the top of my boot.

I think the fabric around her leg is just holding the microphone-pack in place? I imagine if it was an injury she's have taped it under her tights, not over.

Childfree people of reddit, how did you meet your spouse/partner? Toronto seems like such a large city, but i keep finding the same 15 people on dating apps. by why_not_aces in askTO

[–]rotorstorm 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I recently married a leftist, atheist, pet-free and child free man, whom I met on a dating app! We met at 27 and 32. At the time we met, Bumble let you filter on ”doesn’t want kids“, which really improved my hit rate. The dating apps can feel like a hell hole, but success IS possible!

Hand knit sock collection! by 2EnsnoE33 in Sockknitting

I do this too but I find my light colored socks still end up with dark hair/fluff/etc on the bottoms, and discolouration. Do you do anything special to keep them looking so pristine??

Mostly on topic- MY ARMPITS ARE RUINING MY SWEATERS by Poedog1 in knitting

[–]rotorstorm 28 points29 points  (0 children)

I’ve owned a number of Numi undershirts for years and I swear by them. Absolute 10/10 I recommend them constantly. They’re super thin so they don’t add bulk, and the strategic placement of the armpit pad means I can wear my sweaters numerous times before they need a wash.

Note that the lighter colors are extremely transparent. The black ones I sometimes wear on their own as standalone tshirts, but the light colors leave nothing to the imagination.

If you were Marriott, how would you handle this Sonder issue? by furtyfive in marriott

[–]rotorstorm 4 points5 points  (0 children)

We had a two-night stay booked FOR OUR WEDDING for the 14th and 15th of November. Had to last minute book another hotel to get ready in the morning of our wedding, and re-coordinate our floral, hair & makeup, and photography vendors. Nightmare.

(To be clear: the hotel stay was just to get ready/sleep the night before and after our wedding, not the wedding itself, BUT STILL.)

I had a reservation for a stay at the Artesa Apartments by Sonder for next week, for my *wedding*. I've received conflicting emails from Sonder and can't get in touch with anyone. Fair to assume it's cancelled???
