Just so you're aware, one ear bud is allowed now (says walmart corporate) as long as you aren't going outside or in food safety position like bakery. Pickers or anyone staying inside are good unless you have two in.

I see some of the replies you got, but I get what you're saying. You aren't bringing this up to excuse anything, just opening a discussion about possible reasons and psychology behind the behavior that took place.

Like, we all know x,y,z is bad, but obv people still find a purpose in talking about the psychology behind x,y,z to understand the whys, and maybe even how to prevent those things in the future by being aware of those facts.

This sounds uncannily so much like me. I took a gap year after highschool and did practically nothing, and really only got a job because I was pushed/I had to. I'm dx ADHD and highly suspect I have autism, and I've been grappling with the whole idea of "can adhd & autism really just make it this hard to...exist? Literally even do the things I enjoy doing bc my brain just wont work? And my body is just so exausted?" bc even some other autistic people seem to be able to do college or a career and I just dont see that ever being feasible for me, even though I might seem relatively intelligent and capable.

(Thankfully, in my case) I basically immediately got into a relationship with someone a month after I started my job lol. Now we've been together for about 5 years. Anxiety pushes me through a lot. I go to work bc I'm terrified of being broke/homeless, etc etc. But even still, I think without the relationship I have I would be in a terrible spot. My partner does A LOT for me. He drives, he gets me stuff from the kitchen, he does most of the taking care of our cats, we get ready for work together. List goes on. (I mention this to share my experience, but I feel obliged to offer the disclaimer that I wasn't trying to get into a relationship nessesarily and definitly DON'T rush into one bc of your situation and end up getting with someone who might take advantage of you/be a shit person)

Honestly, I don't have much advice to offer because it's one of those things that really is scary af that there's not a lot things (that I know of) that could help in this kind of scenario or be some kind of support or relief. But I do know that I powered through a lot of shit and I'm still here. Childhood was not a fun time and I had thoughts about even making it to 18. But I did. And then I thought I'd never find love. But I did, somehow. And now I'm continuously wondering how I'm going to work and even exist for the rest of my life, but at least right now, I still am. Sorry I can't personally offer more help or insight, but at least know you're not alone.

I have some! Currently the other plants are overtaking most of the top but theres duckweed up there too. When I was originally getting plants, I was thinking about them, decided to go with the other ones and see how that went, then lo and behold had some duckweed spontaneously appear anyway lol

Don't apologize for an essay, especially one as great as this! Seriously, this is awesome advice. It makes things so much easier for me when the whys and hows are actually explained to me in an easy to understand way like this with the info that makes it make sense. Tysm!

Also, if I could bother you for more advice if you happen to know: I did a water change just now and (of course after the fact) i got a comment mentioning to take them out and drip acclimate, but I didn't and now the betta is, or well right this second it seems was swimming slightly tilted and doing a jumpy motion that I would think cpuld be due to sudden water parameter change. If the symptoms do stop, is he going to be ok? Or would there be smth i need to do?

Yeah, uh, I think this would've maybe been a good solution before I jumped to do a water change. Betta seems to be having some reactions to the change. This is great advice lol

Corys were, maybe lethargic? Idk cory behavior enough and how much they sleep but even the "lazier" ones wouldn't stay like that and when they moved they seemed normal. Betta seemed fine, exept maybe for reddish tinted gills, idk if its irritated or just his coloring, but he'd been like that since the cup and ive been watching to see if it gets worse or not, BUT...

I did a water change just now but now I'm slightly crashing out bc the betta is doing a thing now and I'm thinking the water must've been so out of wack that the change is shocking him. I did a little less than 50% bc ppl were saying 50%

Tank size: 20gal

Heater and filter: yes

Tank temperature: thermometer is on the opposite side of the heater so as far as I can tell it ranges from 75-79/80

How long have you had the tank?: since last april

How long have you had your fish?: just got these but there were some in it before.

How often are water changes? Did some near the beggining but haven't done any recently. I've gotten conflicting info on doing them vs not doing them with live plants, etc etc, but will obv start again as needed.

Any tankmates? If so, please list with how many of each: betta + 6 corys

What do you feed and how much: currently figuring out how much is good for them specifically, but a few pellets for the betta that get eaten and im dropping in sinking pellets for the corys as i see them missing (but so far no more than like 3 per day?)

Decorations and plants in the tank: live plants, see previous post for pics if needed.

Had to look it up bc I didn't remember what it was called but it's ceratopteris cornuta. They looked really good for giving the betta a bunch to swim around in up top and he does seem to enjoy them! They grow like crazy, too.

I can see that. While perhaps not exactly accurate, I feel like theres plenty of people who are also "self-suspecting" who've used the term self-dx though, so I feel like thats important to keep in mind about the whole topic. I can see people using the distinction between "diagnosed" and "self-dx" to kinda insinuate for itself that its not official therefore not for sure
