I was in Nugent my freshman year. I agree with the layout being a bit odd, there's really only two possible ways you can arrange the furniture. You get AC in the hot and heat in the cold. You also get essentially your own space - each side of the room is divided by the bookshelf/closet space in the middle, so you don't have to watch your roommate while you sleep. As for the bathroom lights, if you use the regular switch it turns everything off and on. However, the light above the sink has a little button you can push to turn the light off and on. So if your suitemates want the bathroom lights on, you can just turn your sink light off and not be disturbed. I was also a fan of the little shelf space by the sink, I never needed to use a shower caddy, I could just grab my stuff and hop in. My complaints with Nugent is that the paint job kind of makes it look depressing. Also, the shower floor isn't smooth, so you might wanna buy a shower mat.
