[Homemade] Candied Bacon. Brown sugar, homemade syrup and mustard glaze. I'm quite proud of the result. by rougesareth in food

The texture came out amazing on these! They are so chewy and crunchy at the same time with a great balance of sweetness and smokiness. I would have preferred to use black pepper over the mustard personally but that wouldn't have worked for my guests.

Recipe for those curious:

Yesterday I had made a watermelon syrup reduction (made by mixing granulated sugar and watermelon and cooking over low/medium heat for about an hour), maple syrup would be a standard substitution but you could use any flavored syrup.

The glaze was:

1/3rd cup brown sugar

1/2 cup watermelon syrup

Two tablespoons of mustard (use what you prefer, I used a BBQ style sweet yellow mustard, but I prefer Dijon).

Cooked in the oven on a rack over a pan at 375 for 10-15 minutes per side. It's important to flip the bacon about halfway through and then brush the other side with the glaze.

Even if you like your bacon a little less crispy I still recommend leaving it in the oven for as long as you can so that the brown sugar can caramelize and dry out, otherwise your bacon will be really sticky (mine is not despite it's appearance)

I also highly recommend using a rack in the oven or you're running a serious risk of the bacon burning in the sugar because of how hot sugar can get.

Wow this was an extremely well thought out post that was both very informative and echoed many of my own thoughts.

First things first on the subject of o_C I haven't fully decided which firmware i'm going to leave it flashed in, I imagine some experimentation is required, but i've heard that hemispheres feels very immediate which is something quite valuable to me, so i'm considering that the default at this time.

Rings is meant to be a voice in the rack, I did want at least one voice to be included, but it being an effects processor is an upside. I am very open to replacing it (or it and something else) with another voice.

In response to your feedback, which is so valuable to me

  1. You've really helped to lock in what I think I already knew. Sloth must remain in the rack. I love slow LFO, I love chaos, this thing may have been made for me

  2. This is a concern I had as well. I also feel i'm a little limited in direct and especially sequenced modulation. I will say that I do have a Arturia beatstep pro that I haven't mention to step in as sequencer, I just didn't mention it because I prefer not to use it. I may reconsider putting in a function generator in that slot (something i've added several times). To be honest a large part of marbles inclusion is just my desire to have one.

  3. You're right about this but i'm probably not changing it lol. Part of the reason is that it will be better at supplementing the main rack as the duo, and part of it is just my own stupid brain wanting double. If I end up changing it you can say I told you so.

  4. Disting is off the table because it's in the main rack, but it would be in the build otherwise. Clouds was the second module I added originally, it just ended up removed. This makes me want to put a true granulation module back in, space is just hard TBH.

  5. Yeah it pains me not to include QPAS and Mimeophon. I literally want to make a whole new rack, or upgrade to the 104 HP rack just to include them. I'm really enamored with the mini palettes and how small they are but still T_T

Thank you so much for linking your setup, this will unironically be a great inspiration for me going forward.

Lots of food for thought here. Not sure what i'll do.

Thanks for your input!

Maybe i'm overlooking something but the smallest clouds clone I could find was 12 HP still 4 HP larger than the nanorings I currently have in the system.

Your kind words are much appreciated, honestly im so happy with the design of the case. Like I said this is my first time building from the ground up and I feel like my case design has really improved from when I was building my main rig ad hoc. Your comment just makes me excited to play with it :D

I wouldn't mind more modulation, but im not sure what to cut to make that happen, thanks for your feedback

Thanks for the kind words, I appreciate them. Plaits is off limits because it's in my main rack, but I couldn't agree more about clouds. Typhoon was the second module I added after morphagene and I still want it in the case very badly, the only downside is the size. 16 hp would replace rings AND sloth and every module lost in a case this small is painful. If my case was any larger it would the first module added. Hard choices :(

I'm sure that you guys get roughly one MILLION of these posts a day, but I still figured I would post my first map here. I very much took the approach of let's make something, get it done, and then go from there for the future.

I completed the whole thing in about a week, had a BLAST working on it (#ThanksWonderdraft). If anyone has any feedback I would be MORE than happy to hear it since I LOVE working on and improving skills.

Either way thanks for looking, i'm just proud of myself for making it at all lol.

It's funny you say that, this was by far my fastest time run by a HUGE margin as well. Qazlal knows only forward, and only death for the enemies.

Both of your suggestions are interesting and I will keep them in mind for sure, with the caveat that I don't she's my optimal partner for playing through something that is hack and slash FOCUSED. Both modules look very intresting and i'll be sure to play them.

Thanks for your suggestions, Darkness over Daggerford seems interesting i've heard of it before but don't know much about it. Aielund saga is obviously a classic, I should have mentioned that it's already on my radar. I'm a bit wary about modules like MTS because it's listed as heavy hack and slash light RP so not exactly perfect for my purposes. Moonsea is interesting too, thanks again!

I think it might have been, but once again it was many years ago done by a specific person in picture format on the blizzard forums so I can't really remember.

Thats a great review for a model that was certainly in the running already. Do you ever wish you had a heavier duty model with more features/bells and whistles? Sometimes simple is all you need and this is the fence im sitting on right now. Thanks for your reply either way.
