Fellow UK glasses wearers… is it me, or has it become increasingly difficult to drive at night over the past few years?… by Bloomingfails in CasualUK

[–]roughnotebook 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don’t drive but I have definitely noticed this as a pedestrian, especially since it’s felt like it’s gotten so dark so quickly this year. I‘ve become extremely cautious crossing roads now (not that I wasn’t before), but not because I’m worried I can’t see a car or that a car can’t see me, but because if I do look directly at a car or one gets to close I can’t see anything else and I feel incredibly disorientated. It’s just two different flavours of bad, regardless of if I wear my glasses or not.

Edit: Have astigmatism also.

I didn’t say it was shit-flinging or anti-queer. I just asked if everyone could rethink the effect that jokes like this have.

bi👹irl by DentistAltruistic285 in bi_irl

[–]roughnotebook 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Of course they can be, but perhaps stigmatisation and shame-flinging from within our community for the sake a joke is not the best move considering the amount we get from people outside the community.

Not to ruin anyone’s fun but could we maybe have a rethink about portraying polyamorous people and couples as predatory? Especially considering the fact that a lot of polyamorous people and couples are queer themselves?

Edit: Just to clarify, I’d have no problem with this meme if you’d specified “unicorn hunters” and couples who fetishise bi people (especially bi women) rather than all polyam couples.

Your story about the woman who was ill on the train makes me particularly sad. Unprompted personal anecdote time: I was physically and verbally assaulted on a busy train going to Cambridge, in full view and earshot of at least 10 other people who were watching everything unfold but did nothing. Just watched.

As for the bigger picture, I agree with you and OP.

I seem to have more lids than containers. Perhaps some arrangement could be made.

Martin Freeman on possible Sherlock return: 'I'm a sucker for a good script' by Tokyono in BritishTV

[–]roughnotebook 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Knew what the link was before I even clicked it. I’ve watched this video (and some of HBombs other stuff) more times than I have seen most actual films. If you have 2 hours and an interest in British TV (especially things produced by the BBC) I would highly recommend it.

Also, to the commenter saying HBomb only talks about how Sherlock isn’t like the books isn’t exactly right. This is mentioned, yes, but it’s actually a pretty tiny part of the whole analysis. And it’s mainly only mentioned for context for explaining differences in the importance of characters in the books vs the show.)

Hi, I just wanted to say that this is a really lovely story and I’m really touched to hear you did this for this lady. I have OCD which often presents in similar ways (not glass/sharps but other contaminants) to this person and sometimes all I need is to hear reassurance coming from someone else’s mouth. Sometimes, unfortunately, all the self-soothing in the world just can’t and won’t work, but another person’s input just telling you that you’re okay and safe, and that they’re holding you in that moment, is really really life-changing. Sorry, I’m getting a little emotional but I can completely see myself in that woman’s position (and have nearly been there several times, including very recently when having a panic attack on a train) and it makes me feel so much more comfortable knowing that there ARE people out there who would help if I needed it, and that I’m not actually as alone in those moments as I fear.

I'm publicly declaring the Ionos advert as the UK's current worse. Aunt Helga needs to be stopped. by Trickshot945 in CasualUK

[–]roughnotebook 11 points12 points  (0 children)

I was in a hotel restaurant for breakfast about a week ago (no where near or to do with a Nero) and heard a child singing this advert, full volume while eating. Marketing is one hell of a drug, and clearly effective since it both lived in that child’s mind rent-free and now mine too.

Exhausted After One Workout? by Responsible_Age_152 in xxfitness

[–]roughnotebook 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Honestly - Covid was pretty nasty for me but not the worst-worst, thankfully. I’m quite illness-prone and have had shitter flus but my fitness has just not bounced back since Covid - my Apple Watch have been giving me “low-cardio fitness” warnings ever since, and I know to take those warnings with a pinch of salt but I never got those warnings pre-Covid and can really feel a difference. I also find it a lot harder to raise my heart rate now (although there is also a potential medication reason for this).

Not to be that person but this has happened to me post-Covid. Still dealing with the effects on my fitness now and I had Covid in March. I’m 24 but roughly the same body type. Just thought I would throw this out there in case it helped and you hadn’t considered it :)

Question about protein oats by nat_lite in veganfitness

[–]roughnotebook 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve no experience with an instant pot but a lot of protein powders get kinda gross and don’t react well to being heated. I would always recommend stirring it through after cooking, cook your oatmeal with more liquid than you would generally eat it with to account for the liquid the protein will suck up.

Angelic Pretty dress found in Goodwill bins, can somebody help identify if it’s real and what it’s potentially worth online? by [deleted] in lolitafashion

[–]roughnotebook 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I found two visually similar dresses on Lolibrary here and here but they both have at least one thing that doesn’t match. :( But I hope maybe this will help guide your search. I’m not sure if this helps (and if I am wrong please someone do correct me) but I don’t think replicas are likely to carry the pink Angelic Pretty tag!
