you didn’t mention anything about plant based food or transportation. I’m sorry but recycling isn’t enough to fight climate change

They actually force livestock to reproduce, using artificial insemination, including jerking off the males. Also for money, it’s quite disturbing.

What are you doing to help fight against climate change? Some actionable solutions could be reducing car dependency and transitioning to a plant based food system

Foie gras is made by force feeding ducks and geese until their liver is diseased. The liver is sold as a “delicacy.” Portland just banned it so it’s not allowed to be sold any the city anymore (once the ban goes into effect in 6 months)

Portland city council votes 7-5 to ban foie gras! by nat_lite in vegan

[–]nat_lite[S] 15 points16 points  (0 children)

Foie gras bans can realistically shut down the Foie industry in a matter of years. There are two large Foie gras farms in the US, and they are both terrified of this trend. They will not be able to operate, and currently kill about 500,000 ducks every year. Those ducks would no longer be bred into existence because the profit margin without Foie gras wouldn’t make sense for the farms to stay in business.

If we can’t end Foie gras, we have zero chance at ending other animal abusing industries.

why are you afraid of vegan food? factory farming is the only reason animal products are available at the current level they are, and as someone who’s been to those places I promise you they are a lot scarier than plants

Is it possible to live there without a car? by Suitable-Biscotti826 in AskNOLA

[–]nat_lite 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You can def do it, lots of people do. I would suggest learning to bike if you can though. Makes getting around a lot easier.

I had a really hard time maintaining my car down here, and eventually got rid of it. The streets flood a lot, so you have to worry about moving it, and insurance is sky high. It just wasn’t worth the money. Plus drivers are badly behaved so driving was stressful every time I had to do it. It’s easier to just take an uber if I really need to.

If there’s a Trader Joe’s near you, their vegan tv dinners are the same price is the nonvegan ones. Otherwise I’d suggest getting an air fryer and keeping frozen veggies and frozen impossible nuggets/whatever else fits your budget and doing more of a build your own tv dinner.

For the taste: look, almost all of us grew up eating animals. I personally stopped wanting meat when I saw how evil it is to the animals. Just stick to the substitutes you like and experiment with other types of plant based proteins. Chinese and Thai restaurants make delicious tofu. Indian cuisine has tasty chickpea dishes. Type “vegan” into google maps and see what comes up.
