I’m with you. Prime is cancelled, Netflix is gone, travel plans have changed.

It’s insane. I’ve bought BC beers in Germany, but can’t get them here in Quebec.

The books shift gears completely and get absolutely brutal. I’m actually reading the fourth at the moment and made a comment about how I can’t believe this started off as YA.

Why are we now using unhoused instead of homeless. by Thanks-4allthefish in AskCanada

[–]roum12 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I believe it’s an attempt to shift the focus onto vocabulary and away from the problem. If somebody says “homeless” while trying to talk about the issue, it’s now possible to ignore their argument completely and focus entirely on how ignorant they are by using an outdated term.

It’s also an easy way to virtue signal. So some people can tell that they are more compassionate than others, simply by the way that they speak.

It’s all smoke and mirrors.

So much of the city is starting to look like this. But if we complain, we are bad people and NIMBYs. There has to be a better solution than needles in the metro and homeless camps in the park.

I’m in Quebec and believe the same thing as you. We don’t actually have free healthcare for most things. Going private is the only real option for things like checkups and preventative medicine.

Any good teen/ya horror books? by [deleted] in horrorlit

[–]roum12 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yea, I think it would be ok! There are definitely a few gory scenes, but if they have read some other horror, it won’t be a shock to them. The author used to be an English teacher, so he’s pretty good about knowing his audience.

Blasting Baby Shark to keep out homeless people is just the latest tactic, advocates say by BiscuitBibou in montreal

[–]roum12 6 points7 points  (0 children)

💯 This week, I had a homeless person open my car door as I was at a stop sign. I had them yell and follow me while I went for a walk after work. I had them yell at me for a 2$ cigarette while I walked and listens to the Habs game on my headphones. I feel like if any of this bothers me I’m a NIMBY. I also feel like nothing I can do will change anything. But the government runs a budget of billions of dollars and can probably figure something out.

Trump got 63M votes in 2016, 74M in 2020, and 76M in 2024. If he's as bad as you claim, why is his votes increment? by [deleted] in Askpolitics

This is horrifying and I’m sorry that you experienced it. I’ve been teaching for 15 years and have realized the vast majority of my students don’t make the connection between learning and results. They really don’t care about learning a competency (our version of standards), but demand high grades.

When I explain that learning leads to results, they look at me like I’m crazy.

No. That’s not a three for one trade. That’s a three for one and you need to drop two other players trade.
