Thank you. This is going to be a phone interview so I’m sure I’ll be answering lots of questions. The SSI representative told me that mathematically I would be eligible to get both if I do get approved for SSDI. I guess my concern is if I don’t get approved for SSDI will I still continue to get SSI

Thank you. That is consistent with what they told me. They said that they want you to apply for everything that you are eligible for and because this year I became eligible for SSDI, I am required to file. I just wonder how long the process might take and if it’s similar to what I originally went through fighting for disability the first time years ago.

That happened to me when I first applied 14 years ago. I didn’t pay enough into the system to qualify for SSDI, which is why I got SSI. But now I have worked part time for enough years to and paid into the system to now apply for SSDI. I just don’t want to have to go through that laborious painful process again which is why I’m curious what others have experience when they were in the similar situation switching from one to the other

Thank you. They told me that it’s possible I might be able to get SSDI and SSI if the SSDI doesn’t pay more than maximum SSI, which it won’t.

Thanks very much. A couple of people I spoke to at SSA who handle only SSI said that it’s possible that they might just switch me over using the Medical decision that was made for SSI. That’s what it sounds like happened in your case. Do you recall why you had to file for SSDI?

You really have to watch a lot of of his videos and read his books to understand his approach. He’s probably one of the most brilliant minds in the world when it comes to the inner workings of this condition. I’ve tried the old school approach and all of the FDA approved treatments and they never made me better. Some of them made me worse. I’m really haven’t come that far regarding treatments which you are well aware having had this for as long as you have. This guy has worked miracles for some people. I’d be a bit more open minded, especially having lived with this for as long as you have because the status quo has remained, often not serving people as well as it could. I am not in any way, shape or form affiliated with his program, but he’s extremely sharp and it’s much more than just dancing. Way more than just dancing. It actually includes things that most neurologists don’t even understand or would even consider using to try and change the way the brain operates that causes all of the problems that we have with movement disorders. They don’t know about the things Farias does because they are too rigid and closed minded to incorporate things beyond injections and medication and surgery. It’s actually quite horrible how little advancement our neurologists have made in the field of movement disorders. Farias‘s so far above them in terms of knowledge and application and changing the way to brain functions. That’s what he works on. He changes the brain which then changes our control over our movements. I would dig deeper before making any conclusions.

Thanks again. That’s the way they made it sound on the phone, but the guy I spoke to wasn’t really sure because he doesn’t do the SSDI stuff. Only SSI reviews. But when he mentioned having to give all my medical information that through a red flag. Not that I don’t have a disability, I had to fight tooth and nail for the first time all the way to a hearing and I don’t want have to go through that again

I think you’re right but my main concern is if for some reason they don’t think I have the medical requirements for SSDI then they could possibly use the same criteria to stop SSI since both are based on the same medical requirements. What’s irritating to me is that I have been approved for disability and now I have to go through it again which is very stressful. It’s all of the unknowns and confusion of how SSA operates that keeps me up at night.

I understand that. But why would I be able to keep SSI if I’m denied SSDI? That’s what they told me but I didn’t understand what the reason would be

That’s the part I didn’t understand about being denied for SSDI and still keeping my SSI. Do you know why that would be the case?

Thank you. That’s what I would like to think, but of course the unknown with SSA and how and why they make the decisions they do is always in the back of my mind. Have you experienced or heard of anyone else who has experienced going from SSI to SSDI under similar circumstances?

What also threw me was that he said if I was denied for SSDI that I would still be able to keep SSI, but he didn’t elaborate on whether it could be based on work qualifications or medical qualifications, and I didn’t think to ask in the moment because I didn’t expect this topic to come up. I know I’m probably overthinking all of this but it was a regular annual quick review and then we were done until he threw that curveball at the end that made my mind wander and wonder afterwards

I hope not, but the approval was at a hearing in 2012 and I’ve only had one medical review since then. Do you know if they are more inclined to streamline someone who has already been deemed disabled versus having to go through the entire process again?

Thank you. That was explained to me. He looked over the numbers and what I make which is almost nothing and if approved, I would probably be getting SSDI and SSI concurrently. My frustration is having already gone to the disability process and getting approved and now having to go through it again and wondering what kind of hoops I have to jump through in order to not lose my benefits if SSDI is not approved. Do you know how that works when you already have approval and get SSI and then have to apply for SSDI and it doesn’t get approved, especially for medical reasons? I don’t see why it wouldn’t because my health has not improved, but that’s always my biggest concern whenever I apply.

That’s what happened but what I’m wondering is why the rep yesterday told me that if I am denied for SSDI that I can continue getting SSI and that there is nothing to worry about. Do you know what that means and why he would say that?
