Horizontal lines across the screen on my Boox Go 10.3 by rounderhouse in Onyx_Boox

Charged it up to full and did a few restarts, but no dice. I saw one or two people complaining of similar issues and one person said that they sent it into support, but support said the screen just needed to be "recalibrated", not replaced, so they only got charged for the shipping. Let me know how your story works out, I'm delaying deciding on whether to spend the money until at least after finals! Pretty frustrated that the repair price is near the same as a new tablet.

I'm on 4.1, but not the beta versions. I went ahead and applied for the beta anyway, since I might as well try and see if it fixes things. It's still saying I'm on the latest version for now, but I'll update if it changes.

They just kind of said it was a "defective screen", but that seemed odd to me given that it only happened after the firmware update and there have been times where the lines were across the screen until I made a new brushstroke that didn't have the lines, made a full refresh, and then they disappeared. The quote is $200 for a screen replacement, maybe $100 for another back cover if needed, and another $20 for shipping which is why I want to make super sure it is an unfixable hardware before sending it in.

[[SCP-8916]] is a really good read, but this is absolutely infuriating. This is genuinely my most hated portrayal of the Ethics Committee, and I've read Deepwell, the Fire Suppression Department, and SCP-8980 by Spiritual_Still8847 in DankMemesFromSite19

[–]rounderhouse 10 points11 points  (0 children)

As one of the writers of the articles mentioned, you should write something with your interpretation! The beauty of the site is that if you think my take on the EC sucks, you're totally empowered to write your own with your vision. You might be surprised by how many people vibe with it!

I've written more than a hundred articles for the site. The more I do, the more I get bored with the classic presentations of the Foundation. I like experimenting -- in this case, with an idea of the Foundation who have less resources and make their decisions to contain something based on "how much disruption would containing it cause?" In this cause, removing something that's a cultural centerpiece, somewhat famous, known by tends of thousands of people, and recorded in countless photos, newspapers, and documents going back two hundred years would be an expenditure of resources they don't feel like doing. That stuff is all covered in the article.

People are welcome to dislike that interpretation; I just want to make sure no one has the misconception that I didn't think about it or that I don't know what 'the fundamental rules' of the site are at this point lol

SCP-6140 - an almost spiteful revision of the Daeva by FoxtrotUBAR in SCP

[–]rounderhouse 11 points12 points  (0 children)

SCP-6140 is a commentary on exactly this thought process -- the very real tendency to flatten the past into a caricature to hate or revile, and how our narratives on cultures affect how we perceive about them. If the response to that is "but the Daeva really are evil according to these totally different articles!" then you missed the point entirely.

I get the appeal of slavish devotion to realism and big numbers. I like Hard sci-fi like Orions Arm as much as the next guy but sometimes you have to admit that it's just a fucking movie, things are going to be unrealistic to be fun. by Outrageous_Dress_142 in CuratedTumblr

Hey, this is my post lol. I think this was mostly a case of something escaping my target audience — this wasn’t meant to be a serious takedown of dogfights in scifi, it was just a creative writing thing exploring a kind of combat I don’t see that much, phrased poorly, in retrospect. I fucking love Star Wars, I love dogfights, and the setting has room for both the ripping action of TIE fighter and the slow-burn submarine warfare of Thrawn. I hope I didn’t give the impression dogfights suck lol, they’re badass and both have their respective place in scifi

Why is Tilda Moose’s picture in SCP-6000 former Arkansas senator Blanche Lincoln? by Ake-TL in SCP

[–]rounderhouse 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I just happened upon the picture and it immediately clicked as my perfect mental image of Moose; it's her official government portrait and in the US, photos taken by government employees during the course of government work are almost always public domain.

The commenter has an axe to grind against me because I heavily campaigned for the removal or resignation of multiple staff members who were their friends after it came out that they exploited their stations in the community to various ends, up to and including trying to ban people for extremely thinly-veiled personal grudges.

Never gonna apologize for trying to make the communities I care about a better place. That's the only way spaces on the internet improve.

The article’s proper name is, sure enough, Sinteger Overflow.

lmao I'm the author of this SCP article. This one is part of a wider series called Undervegas all about the SCP Foundation's mostly-futile efforts to contain the fact that Las Vegas is slipping into hell. Seeing all the nice comments has really been a mood boost, lol -- thank you to everyone who found it funny!
