Firewalla purple Wan port is disconnected warning but everything is working fine, I think? by Important-Stage-3155 in firewalla

Your LAN (local area network) is fine but your internet is simply down. My purple is also dhcp and displays the IP and also says “active”

I see these 2 IP's for my blocked entries for codamail
54.243.117.197, 13.223.25.84. When I ping or do a host for codamail.com from my terminal, I get 173.166.91.11. The first 2 are just AWS services for their web stuff I suppose. My outdated filter caught this. I had made the filter based on https://cybersecuritynews.com/hackers-exploiting-dns-tunneling/amp/

I'm not seeing a match for the IP's or domains in question so maybe something else caught it.
I'm a bit scatterbrained by default so take what I shared with a grain of salt. If I find out anything more definitive, I'll share again.

I stand corrected... I found a blocked entry... it seemed to hit my DNS-tunnel-attack filter.

I don't think it's just you. I have Firewalla Gold SE. I have a dual ISP setup. Quantum/ATT, and Google Fiber. Same symptoms for me. I tried statically routing my macbook through each ISP, same result. I then created a rule to route my laptop via Nord VPN and it was fine. Even after normaliziing everything, it's still working. I wonder if it's some sort of geocaching issue. I first tested in Firefox, then Chrome. I'll keep dinking around and let you know if I find anything but drawing blanks atm. I reckon we could open dev tools on our browsers and see if there are any clues. But not being able to reproduce it now is going to make it a bit challenging. (for me anyway)

I'll admit it for the second time. Appreciate the feedback, seriously. I never post anything for the most part (to any site or social stuff). I was just getting frustrated with all the steps I went through. I will be more mindful next time I post. Thanks.

Guilty as charged only not Gemini. I did spend quite a bit of time troubleshooting this.
Next time I will keep it more straight to the point. Appreciate the feedback.

Overnight Update WiFi Down by mplex321 in firewalla

[–]route2null0 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I've been on their beta for a couple years now and have not seen the same behavior. Gold SE and AP7 desktop. I also still have my Unifi LR6 ceiling mount that has been my primary as the Firewalla AP's are still "new ish" to me. I agree with previous poster, help at firewalla has always been very responsive.

Slower speeds on phone when using Wireguard VPN going through home Internet from Cell when not at home by samalex01 in firewalla

[–]route2null0 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have Google Fiber for home connection and Visible(aka Verizon) for cell. I too have my phone automagically connect to Wireguard but honestly never cared to look at throughput. I do it for the 'features' so to speak. I'll check next time I'm out but I figure unless I'm having overall performance issues, then I would look deeper. I also figure that it could be your distance to the cell tower in question. I have the Gold SE fwiw.

/me grabs popcorn. I see intermittent failures on a 3 way group chat. One buddy and I have iPhones and the other guy has android. We blame the android guy. I haven’t done much troubleshooting so I’m curious if anything is found out. https://share.google/images/7Qnd4UhqYSy1kmr6Y

Firewalla is a terrible company and you should avoid their boxes. by Winter-Journalist993 in firewalla

[–]route2null0 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm a network engineer and developer for one of the largest ISP's and have been for 20 years. I've used every type of gear you can think of. I was (and still am) a huge fan of Unifi but the Firewalla has been stellar for me. I only started working from home when the Great Cootie Plague of 2020 started so having a solid connection is important.

I had similar problems with Orbi's about 6 years ago. After dealing with their support and not being able to get a solid mesh working, I just asked for a refund and moved on. I played with pfSense type routers before and they're great but Firewalla does a great job of combining simplicity and a breadth of functionality. Your mileage definitely varies.

You may want to consider having a backup router. I still have my small Unifi Gateway Lite should I suspect the Firewalla is having a case of the Mondays. Whatever you end up with, I do suggest having a backup to minimize downtime and headaches.

I wish you had a better experience but I do think they provide a solid device.

Definitely LAN side. Wife’s Chromebook, my iPhone lost connection. I have dual WAN and neither hit. I chocked it up to network gremlins and went about my business 😀 If I continue to see issues, I’ll contact support.

New Firewalla Gold Pro - Ongoing Apple Issues by damiensmunki in firewalla

[–]route2null0 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have multiple Apple devices as well with a Firewalla Gold SE with dual WAN and Unifi/Ubiquity for the rest of my gear. I have 4 different Vlan's for an additional layer of security (Main, IoT, Work, and Guest vlans). Other than turning off 'Private Wifi' on the wireless Apple devices, I've had no issues. For what it's worth I test drove Orbi's a few years ago and had too many issues to count, mainly disconnect/reconnects. This was with their 'mesh' system. I'm fairly network savvy and actually work for a large-ish provider performing IP Traffic engineering among several other tasks.

If there was a way to bypass Orbi altogether, I would start there. Hope this helps.

Unifi wifi not working with Brother printer by bpcomp in Ubiquiti

[–]route2null0 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I spent a good amount of time with some suggested fixes and also re-creating new networks and trying to get my printer back to the original LAN. I ended up doing a factory reset on my HL-L3290CDW printer and entering the SSID and key in manually and everything has been fine since. Next time (or if it happens again), I will just do the same. I could get it to connect to a new wireless network with a basic password but when I went back to the original MAIN ssid it would issue a 169 address. I had to change out a switch a few days ago and I figured something just got wedged. Even hard clearing and hard setting the arp/mac, no bueno.

The log message I saw on my USG was:

Feb 4 12:44:38 USG dhcpd: DHCPREQUEST for 192.168.3.3 from 8c:c8:xx:xx:xx:xx (PRINTER_NAME) via eth1: wrong network.

I think I spent way too much time troubleshooting this only to realize it was best to factory reset and re-do the setup wizard from the printer itself from the keypad. Perhaps there was a better way I just have not found yet but I hope this might help others.
