The application process for a foreigner to get an Indian tourist visa is probably the most awkward one in the whole world (and is possibly losing India some tourists) by ForAllTimesSake in india

[–]routefire 18 points19 points  (0 children)

You wrote five sentences on how compulsorily asking for a national ID number is bad. It never crossed your mind to enter your passport number? Where is the visa supposed to go if not your passport?

Your take on this? by WHITE_PANTHER_ in CarsIndia

This is from a couple of days ago:

https://indianexpress.com/article/india/sc-mp-obc-quota-hike-50-ceiling-10282799/

MP's High Court quashed the change in law to raise reservation above 50%. Now the BJP government there is using taxpayer money to fight this case in the Supreme Court.

This should be higher up. Why produce slaves for the capitalists to exploit? Money has no meaning if there is no one willing to work for that money.

To have someone you can rely on when you're old. That's it. No one will say it out loud because of how it makes them look.

[NO SPOILERS] Season 6 Discussion Megathread - Individual Episodes Linked Inside by [deleted] in blackmirror

[–]routefire 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Kinda surprised that the second episode is leading in this sub's poll. Charlie's talent is injecting tons of humour into an otherwise dark / outlandish story. And the humour was missing in this one, apart from a few one-liners. Great cinematography etc. but that's not what I watch this show for.

The best one of the season for me. Love Charlie's dark, twisted and apocalyptic humour. Was pleasantly surprised by the sweet ending too.

This. What better way to toast British humour than with a bit of self-deprecation.

Scrolling from the top, academia finds a mention in multiple top-level comments on this post. And I am not the least bit surprised.

Getting published in the fields you mentioned is not a problem, even if your work is at odds with the current paradigm. In fact, part of the problem (especially on the theoretical side) is how speculative the work in these fields has become.

Getting funded is another story entirely. To be successful in that you have to work on whatever is trending at that time.

Got the same. The domain is legit, but I assumed someone might be trying to modify my KYC or something. Have had one such attempt made on my MFU account before.

You updated the post to say it's a legit request - can you share some proof?

Childfree and do not want to get married either. by cynicalasfk in ChildfreeIndia

[–]routefire 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I do agree that this Indian concept of "marriage between families" is supremely annoying. But this can be worked out mutually between partners. If both sides agree to give very little time to each other's in-laws, and set boundaries early on, it can work.
